The Friday the 13th movies have been films of legend for years now. They are the quintessential slasher flicks. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter - Deluxe Edition is part 4 of the series. When it was made, it was supposed to be the end of Jason. Now, of course, we know that Jason really does come back, but we'll look at this one as if it is the ending of the series.

The Final Chapter starts off right at the ending of the last one. The paramedics show up to recover bodies and take Jason away in the ambulance. Of course, being that he's Jason, he's not really dead. After killing everyone he comes across, Jason leaves the hospital and heads back out to the woods and his home.

Out on Crystal Lake, there is apparently a cluster of cabins there. In one of them lives a family consisting of a pre-teen Tommy (Corey Feldman), a teenager Trish (Kimberly Beck), and their mom Mrs. Jarvis (Joan Freeman). In the next cabin, there's a group of teens camping, just the kind that Jason hates the most. They're basically out there to get drunk and laid. Granted they're not all that horny. Sara (Barbara Howard) is the most conservative of the group. They head out to Crystal Point (obviously on Crystal Lake) and run into twins Tina (Camilla More) and Terri (Carey More) on the way. I guess they just needed some more teens to be naked on camera. Once at the lake, the whole group other than Sara goes skinny dipping. You should know at this point that none of them are going to survive. Jason abhors skinny dipping!

There are apparently a lot of people around there, since Tommy and Trish run into yet another hiker on the road. Actually they're quite lucky they ran into him since their car had died. He fixes their car and they give him a ride back to their house. He heads off into the woods to camp. By this time, all the other group is back at their place drinking, smoking and partying. Their whole group is just fodder for Jason to kill. Really, you don't care about any of them and almost revel in their deaths. The family proves to be a bit more difficult though. Tommy is a horror buff and quite a bright child. Has Jason finally met his match in Tommy?

There are a whole lot of special effects on the DVD that will keep you entertained for hours. One of the really interesting ones I thought was the lost ending. Granted it doesn't have any sound, but it's a slightly different take on things. There's also another "Lost Tales of Camp Blood," continuing the trend from the previous movies. I also really liked the "Crystal Lake Massacres Revisited Part I." It is basically a fake documentary interviewing previous victim's families and visiting the residences of Crystal Lake. It's quite entertaining. The "Slashed Scenes" are outtakes of how they created things, not really deleted scenes.

Friday the 13th has been the baseline of slasher films for years. While Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter - Deluxe Edition is probably my least favorite of the series so far, it's still great for a slasher. If you like horror and especially slasher movies, you need to add this one to your collection today!
