  • Episode introductions by series creator Martha Williamson

Back in 1994, CBS began airing the series Touched By An Angel, which held its Bible-based "faith in God" theme for a total of 9 seasons, producing an impressive 212 episodes... not bad for an hour-long television show. Unfortunately, there has yet to be a full release of all nine seasons, and the latest to get released, Seasons 3 & 4, are a bit on the pricey side, so fans of the series can at least get a small taste through the smaller Inspiration Collection DVDs.

Touched By An Angel Inspiration Collection - Faith is one of four 4-episode discs in the collection. Centering around, you guessed it, faith in God, the disc brings you into the lives of a handful of individuals and families who desperately need the love and healing power of God in their lives. The show generally revolves around three angels sent to earth to deliver God's message to those in need. The angels, Monica (Roma Downey), Andrew (John Dye), and Tess (Della Reese), often get caught up in the emotions that go along with fulfilling their assignments, which helps add a little drama to the stories as well.

One thing to be said about the Touched By An Angel series is that it remains neutral from religious denominations and focuses solely on the word of God, which helps its appeal reach the masses. The production quality of the episodes may not contain the best acting or highest-quality budget, but the stories on their own are enough to continue to drive the series. The episodes in Touched By An Angel Inspiration Collection - Faith are a perfect case of quality storylines.

Fighting the Good Fight is about a young boy who, along with his not-so-nice older brother, have been taken in by an uncle who really doesn't want the responsibility of raising them. The boy gets tired of being picked on by his brother and friends, which lands him in a boxing gym, wanting to take out his aggression and defend himself. Guest staring Muhammad Ali, this episode delivers a nice message about turning the other cheek and caring for those who trespass against you.

For Such a Time as This brings another young boy into an adult world when he seeks to change the lives of forgotten Sudan slaves who are being sold for 50 dollars. His efforts are met with resistance by his US Senator mother, who is told that the efforts of bringing attention to the situation in Sudan in front of the government isn't a priority. Guest starring Joe Spano, this episode focuses on the pure heart of children and how adult politics sometimes overshadow what is truly important, helping our neighbors in Jesus.

Famous Last Words is a very touching episode where the angels attempt to save the soul of an inmate set for execution, while at the same time reaching out to his mother so that she may reunite with her son in his final hours. Healing the pain that the death row inmate incurred as a child proves to be very difficult until the angels help reveal the truth of a lifelong misunderstanding. As such, this episode reveals the difficulty in forgiveness, and the power that God has to unveil years of punishing mistrust.

The Good Earth touches on one of today's most talked about concerns: the environment. Guest starring Valerie Bertinelli in her recurring role as Gloria, this episode focuses on a dying scientist who has developed a way to help save the planet's fixation on fossil fuels, and his struggle to pass on his work before it is completed. Focusing on self-struggles and having faith that people will do the right thing, the old man finds a student in a willing kid that God put before him.

The Touched By An Angel Inspiration Collection - Faith DVD's hand-picked episodes really pull on a person's heartstrings as well, showing that the disc is of quality episodes and making it a bit more worthy of the 15 dollar (US) price tag than I may otherwise consider. Unfortunately, the full seasons are a bit overpriced, so picking up or giving the gift of Touched By An Angel Inspiration Collection - Faith is an entry way into the mind of creator Martha Williamson (who also shares a little background story before each episode) and a family television series inspired by God.
