We've all heard of banshees before, but what is a banshee really? Synthetic Cinema International's new movie Banshee!!! will provide you a bit of education on the subject. Just so you know in advance though, a banshee comes from Irish folklore. She is a woman, of different ages based on the tale, whose cry in the night signifies that death is about to take someone. Different legends have a whole lot of different takes and details on the banshee, so it's a creature that tends to be transmuted into many different concepts.

Banshee!!! starts off in 1970 with three guys making a food run on a typical pathetic night for them. On the way, they see a beautiful hitchhiker on the side of the road, so of course, they stop to pick her up. Never mind that she looks exactly like the woman on the soon to be porn they were watching before leaving, and we all know that it can't possibly be her. She kills them all and the car crashes off the road and is buried at the bottom of a small lake.

Now we flash forward to present day where the car is uncovered from the now dried up lake. I'm guessing the banshee was trapped in the car in the lake, but now she's been dug up. Not far from there, a group of college kids on spring break decide to go camping. Of course, they're going to end up right next to the banshee's hideout and this banshee is out for blood. Honestly, the best parts of Banshee!!! are the special effects, the death scenes, and some of the music. The banshee is quite creative on killing and likes to produce the maximum amount of blood possible. Things like throwing a stick straight through the mouth and the back of the head and ripping the top half of a head off were highly amusing. We also decided that the banshee in its monster form was pretty well done. But that's about the only positive things in the movie.

On the negative, I love the fact that Rocker (David McCarthy) has to take the cotton out of his ears to hear a very loud generator start, but yet they can speak to each other in normal voices with the same cotton balls in their ears and they hear each other just fine. The cotton in the ears is supposed to block out the scream of the banshee, making them safe from the banshee's manipulation. But yet the banshee's scream can be heard from miles away. Cotton wouldn't prevent them hearing it anyway. There is a total lack of logic in Banshee!!!. There are a good number of special features on the DVD. Personally, we liked them a lot better than the movie. The bloopers and outtakes are humorous at least. The deleted scenes are about as bad as the movie though.

With lackluster acting and a very minimal plot that is full of holes, I really don't recommend that you watch Banshee!!!. It's not even fun to make fun of when you're drinking!
