In a changing world where a good family-friendly television series is extremely hard to find, there is a silver lining in an otherwise dark storm of increasingly treacherous clouds. 7th Heaven returns to DVD with its decade anniversary season, delivering Bible-based Christian values. For those who may not have seen the series in its first run, the show follows the actions and antics of holy man Reverend Eric Camden (Stephen Collins) and his very large family through their everyday lives.

As the season opens, we witness what will become some of the running themes for the season, including son Simon's (David Gallagher) constantly being pressured by his girlfriend Rose (Sarah Thompson) to get married, sooner rather than later. It all starts with a diamond ring that Simon can't afford, but love has done much stranger things to people. This theme of Rose pushing Simon continues throughout the season, which also causes some hostility between her and the Reverend's wife, Annie (Catherine Hicks).

7th Heaven: The Tenth Season does take on a bit more mature subjects that can haunt every parent as well. Daughter Ruthie (Mackenzie Rosman) has really begun to grow up, which means she has taken a serious interest in the boys at school. There is one guy in particular that she has her eyes set on, but he is her friend's boyfriend. That not stopping her, she has to continuously convince her father that this much older senior is a nice guy as she explores her sexuality.

Another running theme in The Tenth Season has Martin (Tyler Hoechlin) being haunted by a one night stand that he had with Simon's ex, Sandy (Haylie Duff), the previous season. After a difficult time dealing with it herself, she finally lets Martin know that he's about to be a father, which of course puts his current girlfriend Meredith (Megan Henning) in the middle. In a twist, Ruthie mistakenly thinks that Martin has fallen for her when everyone begins talking behind her back, when the reality is that her classmates think that she is pregnant with Martin's baby.

7th Heaven: The Tenth Season also has Lucy (Beverley Mitchell) giving her first sermon, which raises a few eyebrows both within the family and around town. While she learns that her personal agenda isn't necessarily the best topic for Sunday messages, she also does help out the personal problems of many throughout the season now that she's officially a holy woman. Of course, even when Lucy respects the confidentiality of her suitors, that doesn't stop her husband Kevin (George Stults) from getting involved.

The Camden family are not necessarily the only dubious people either. Rose entertains her Italian ex-boyfriend in an obvious effort to make him jealous, unhappily witnessed by her fiancé, Simon. It is no secret that Umberto (Fidel Gomez) came because he still loves Rose, which adds a bit more tension to an already stressful wedding plan.

7th Heaven: The Tenth Season is not all about drama. Sometimes, the season just touches on family values and how parenting can bounce around from a nightmare of stress to the most joyous job in the world. In an only-on TV twist, the end of the season not only has the final decision of Simon and Rose and whether or not they get married, but also has numerous announcements of twins that will be born. The season finale also brings a Camden family reunion into the works.

7th Heaven is an outstanding series that, if you can get past the mediocre acting of some of the players, is a great family-friendly way to sit around the boob tube with your entire clan. I highly recommend 7th Heaven: The Tenth Season, and if you haven't yet, first check out the previous nine seasons.
