No figure in American culture has had as much impact as Walt Disney. A quiet conservative from Kansas City, Walt was a visionary and technological innovator who not only built one of the world's most famous movie studios from scratch, but also pioneered the use of animation, sound, and color in films, was the inventive mastermind behind the theme park business by dreaming up the world's most successful theme parks, entertained millions in the early days of television with ?Walt Disney Presents? and ?The Wonderful World of Color,? and dreamt up remarkable technological advancements such as audio-animatronics. Of course, who can forget a little character known as Mickey Mouse?

Until now, Walt?s private life has remained remarkably quiet. The public only saw one side of Walt, and was never privy to the life of this traditional family man who maintained a 40-year marriage, was a loyal and loving father of two, and had a fondness for trains. Walt: The Man Behind the Myth is an intimate look at Walt through the eyes of people who knew him best. Hosted by Dick Van Dyke, Walt takes viewers behind the myth, and shows them the real Walt through never-before-seen home movies and interviews with friends, family, and experts. From his brush with near bankruptcy during WWII to the opening of Disneyland, this is a rare opportunity into the life of someone who many people view as one of the most influential men in the entertainment business.

Being a major Disney fan, I loved every minute of this movie. This is an honest portrayal of his life from the people who were close to Walt, and is not only one of the more entertaining documentaries I've seen, but is also strangely inspirational. After seeing aspects of Walt?s life, both the good times and bad, and then seeing everything he was capable of, it's hard to not be inspired to make the most of your talents. Parents, especially those who grew up watching Walt on TV, will definitely want to watch this with their children, who never had a chance to know the man behind the movies and theme parks. Regardless if you are a Disney fan or just a fan of entertainment in general, The Man Behind the Myth is something you will want to pick up.
