Well, Ugly Betty is finally coming to a sad end, but the show definitely decided to go out with a bang, literally. Ugly Betty: The Complete Fourth and Final Season begins with Betty (America Ferrera) trying to get settled into her new position at Mode Magazine as a junior editor. She is immediately not accepted by her fellow junior editors, but to make matters much worse, her former love, Matt Hartley (Daniel Eric Gold), is made her boss and does everything in his power to demean her and to keep her from writing. For a good portion of the season this goes on, leading to Betty having to do many humiliating things, the funniest of which is when she and Mark St. James (Michael Urie) have to dress up as a hot dog and bun at an Indian meatless hot dog stand. Ahh, the things Betty must do for a story. Eventually, she and Matt work out their differences and actually get back together only to part ways again before the series wraps up.

Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams) spends her time tracking down Connor Owens (Grant Bowler) because she wants the missing Mode money he stole last season. After much work, she not only gets the money back, but also gets Connor back through a strange turn of events. There's also a crazy plotline about her daughter, Niko, who may or may not have murdered her Spanish boyfriend and Willie has to do much scheming to keep them both out of jail.

Mark finally gets promoted to a junior editor, since Betty beat him out of it last season, but not before having to become Daniel Meade's assistant. Daniel (Eric Mabius) spends the first part of the season working through his grief for Molly, his wife who died at the end of last season, and he even falls prey to a cult. Of course, Betty and the gang save him. Claire Meade (Judith Light) locates the child she had by Calvin Hartley (David Rasche) some 30 years ago, one that she gave up for adoption. When her long-lost son, Tyler (Neal Bledsoe), comes knocking on Meade Publishing's door, leave it to Willie to use him to cause trouble, getting herself shot in the commotion. Of course, she recovers. Evil never dies.

Hilda (Ana Ortiz) ends up breaking up with boyfriend Archie (Ralph Macchio), but reconnects with handsome high school flame Bobby (Adam Rodriguez) and they eventually get married. Justin (Mark Indelicato) finally comes to terms with his homosexuality and comes out to his family when he embarks on a relationship with a friend from acting school. Amanda (Becki Newton) struggles with her place at Mode, wanting more, and finally decides to become a stylist, which eventually reunites her with the father she never knew. Betty gets to cover an event in London and combines it with Hilda's bachelorette party, which reunites her with former best friend Christina (Ashley Jensen) and the trip spawns a job offer which Betty takes to embark on a new life at the show's finale.

Overall, the season was funny, but seemed to spend more time wrapping up loose ends and pushing its agenda on Justin coming out, rather than just having fun with the work experience, which is what Ugly Betty has always done best. While I still enjoyed Ugly Betty: The Complete Fourth and Final Season, it just didn't feel quite as strong as previous seasons. The special features were also weak this season, comprising only a handful of deleted scenes, commentary on one episode, some bloopers, three Mode After Hours webisodes and finally, a short featurette on the gang in the Bahamas, where one episode took place. My favorites have always been the Mode After Hours webisodes with Amanda and Marc doing crazy things at work after things shut down. The ones here were okay, but not as good as previous efforts. That being said, if you've been following the show, you'll want to see how everything plays out, because there's plenty of shocking Betty moments that I left out for you to discover all on your own. I'm sad to see the show come to an end, but it was good while it lasted. Recommended.
