As I said last year with Legend of the Seeker: The Complete First Season, Legend of the Seeker is the best series I've seen in a long time and it just gets better in Legend of the Seeker: The Complete Second and Final Season. I only wish that this wasn't the final season! This season is loosely based on books two and three of Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth novels.

At the conclusion of last season, Darken Rahl (Craig Parker) was defeated by the Seeker, Richard Cypher (Craig Horner) and his group. This season opens with everyone celebrating the victory of the Seeker. But all will not be safe for long as Darken Rahl's master is the Keeper of Death. The way that Richard killed Darken Rahl caused a rift to open up to the underworld, letting out all manner of creatures from Hell. Truly some of them are even more dangerous than Rahl himself was, I believe. We also find out that Richard is really Darken Rahl's half-brother! Not even Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander (Bruce Spence) knew of this fact, and is really upset to learn of it as Richard's mother was his daughter after all.

To start with, Triana (Charisma Carpenter) takes over the Mord'Sith briefly, after a visit from the late Darken Rahl. They're out to add to their numbers already. Of course, the Seeker and company put a quick stop to it, but there's a new wrinkle. The prophecy now says that Zed must name a new Seeker, that if Richard Raul is allowed to continue the quest he will end up serving the Keeper instead. Of course, Zed doesn't believe it, but once all three signs have been fulfilled, including Richard possessing the mark of the Keeper, the sign of the one who will destroy all life, Zed still doesn't know what to do. He's going to stick by his grandson for as long as he can. Kahlan (Bridget Regan) is still by Richard's side always. Their love has grown even stronger, even knowing that they can never be together as husband and wife because of her powers as a Confessor. This season, there's a new addition to their group, Cara (Tabrett Bethell). I really like Cara. She's a wonderfully complex character capable of true cruelty and yet kindness, especially as her character develops as she travels with the group. I think she's become my favorite character in the series. Cara is a Mord'Sith. It's really quite amusing to have a Mord'Sith, a Wizard of the First Order, the Seeker, and the Mother Confessor all traveling together. I'd think no one would dare attack them given that kind of power, but people still do.

On their journeys, the group will continue helping everyone on the way that they possibly can. This includes a tribe of people who literally can't fight, except at a great cost. Sometimes there's a reason an entire group of people has had their power bound. They run into Denna again, in a completely new profession this time, the world's oldest profession. I guess it's a very suitable profession for a Mord'Sith. She's still so very dangerous though, enough to end the Seeker's life! Along the way, the Seeker finds out that he has more power than we knew. While he's off trying to deal with these new powers, there is a new Seeker named, Leo. I like Leo as well.

My favorite episode ever was "Princess." Turning Cara into a princess was the most amusing thing ever! Richard definitely doesn't need to go blonde again though. I know the episode really didn't have much to do with furthering the storyline other than the return of Sister Nicci (Emily Foxler), but it's still one of my favorite episodes just for the sheer humor!

There are a few special features available on the DVD. My favorite of course is "Redemption of a Mord'Sith: Meet Cara." It's all about Cara and her personal journey to rediscover her humanity. I'm not sure she's making it on purpose, but the end result is the same. Cara breaks through her Mord'Sith training at times. There's also a featurette called "Under the Underworld" about creating the underworld that is shown so often this season. Extended Scenes are also available as well.

I really wish that this wasn't the final season of such a wonderful series, but at least it is a fitting ending. Of course, there are always the books to get the rest of the story as well, so in a way, it's not really over. I highly recommend that you go buy Legend of the Seeker: The Complete Second and Final Season today. It's a series that you must see!
