One of my favorite things growing up was going to my grandparent's house whenever there was a free weekend of Disney Channel. It was great! Some of my best memories with my grandparents include watching Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and other classic Disney shows. My favorite, however, was the "Ink and Paint Club," an hour-long show featuring classic Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy cartoons.

The Disney Channel is a much different place now. I get the reason for the change in direction, though I hate that the company has completely abandoned its rich history in favor of all day marathons of Suite Life and Wizards of Waverly Place.

Have a Laugh!: Volume 3 is the sort of stuff I want to see more of from Disney. Volume 3 features five Disney cartoons from the late 30's to the early 50's. Included in the set are:

  • Mickey's Delayed Date (1947)
  • The Whalers (1938)
  • Chef Donald (1941)
  • How to Play Baseball (1942)
  • Pluto and the Gopher (1950)
As a Disney and animation fan, I absolutely loved Volume 3. Two versions of each cartoon are included in the set. There's the original version as well as re-mastered versions. Of the two, I preferred the originals. I love seeing the old introduction cards with Mickey's giant head and the "Technicolor" logo. The re-masters have better sound, but are slightly edited (read: shorter) than the originals.

Either is good, but when in doubt go with the classics. It's a fantastic look at history and, best of all, the cartoons are still hilarious. There's no need for parents to worry about their kids not "getting it"; the cartoons are a lot of fun to watch. Even parents will get a kick out of seeing some of the older shorts.

Volume 3 also includes three short "BLAM!s," which are shorter versions of longer cartoons. These are the equivalent of clip shows. They're not great, but they're great for quick bursts. I'm actually planning on using the clips in one of my classes next year for quick animation studies - so it has uses outside of entertainment.

Also included is a "Re-MICKS," which matches Mickey cartoons to popular songs. Volume 3 pairs clips with The Black-Eyed Peas' "I've Gotta Feeling." I really wasn't a fan of the ideas, though I do see some value. I didn't like it, but I know a few younger kids who would lose their head watching and listening to the shorts.

Have a Laugh!: Volume 3 is a great pick-up. I would have liked more cartoons in the set, but considering the lack of classic Disney content coming from the company, I'll take whatever I can get. Have a Laugh!: Volume 3 is a must buy if you have kids, or are still a kid at heart.
