At the end of The Vampire Diaries: Season One all of the tomb vampires were killed, but Katherine (Nina Dobrev) escaped. The mayor was killed with most of the vampires that were killed by the Gilbert device, and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) drinks Anna's blood at the end of the last season. Katherine is now released and pretends to be Elena (Nina Dobrev) and kisses Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). When Damon leaves, Katherine stabs John (David Anders) and the new season picks up literally right there. Elena finds John, calls the paramedics, and wakes Jeremy up before he turns. Apparently, he didn't take enough to die, according to Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), so Anna's blood just healed him of the pills. Tyler (Michael Trevino) and Caroline (Candice Accola) were in a car accident because Tyler heard the same noise that incapacitated all the vampires, although no one has any clue why since we know that he's not a vampire, but we don't know clue what he is. Stefan is determined to find out what their family secret is, especially after he meets Tyler's uncle Mason (Taylor Kinney)! Caroline is weak and in the hospital, so Damon gives her some of his blood, just enough to heal her. John is in the hospital as well, still alive. Stefan and Elena talk to him to see if they can find out what he knows about Katherine and why she wants him dead. John doesn't know, but Katherine herself answers the question. She is back because she wants Stefan. Of course, she has to break Damon's heart in the process and tells him that she's never loved him; it was always only Stefan, which sets Damon back to his bad phase. He goes to see Elena and when she tells him the exact same thing, he just totally snaps and kills Jeremy when he walks in, completely undoing every bit of good that they had managed to bring out of him. Luckily, Jeremy was wearing the ring that used to be his father's, so he survives. Caroline isn't so lucky, though. Remember that she had Damon's blood in her system so she would heal faster? Katherine uses that to her advantage and kills Caroline so she'll come back, which finally brings us to the end of the first episode!

As you can tell, The Vampire Diaries doesn't leave any time between seasons and picks up with a bang! From there, things get even more interesting very quickly. Caroline has no clue what has happened to her as Katherine suffocated her, so she never knew she died. Given that she's in a hospital, it's easy to find blood without killing and she's taking to these new powers quite well. After all the abuse Stefan put her through, this could really be bad news for him, for all of them really! Damon wants to kill her, but Stefan and Elena won't let her. Bonnie (Katerina Graham) can't handle her being a vampire and blames Damon. Stefan is determined that he can teach her and save her. He even convinces Bonnie to make Caroline a ring like his so that she can walk in the daylight again and be closer to normal. Bonnie is getting really good at this witch stuff, but that doesn't mean that she's going to still be friends with Caroline. Let's just hope Stefan can reign in Caroline. Given that their natural traits amplify when they turn, well you can imagine what that does to Caroline's insecurities. Of course, if I was her, I'd just remember that I wouldn't ever get wrinkles and not be insecure! Of course, I really like the new Caroline after she really gets going.

Alaric (Matthew Davis) helps Damon and Elena go through Isobelle's research, since technically she is still his wife as they haven't revealed that she's missing. Isobelle's research turns out to reveal the Lockwood family curse, and it's really bad news for our vampire friends. They're werewolves and a bite from a werewolf can kill a vampire. Given that Tyler Lockwood doesn't even know he's a werewolf, this could be a huge problem for all involved. Elena also wants to find out what her connection is to Katherine and why they look exactly alike. After all the new info, Damon is going to make it even more of his mission to take out the Lockwoods before they can kill him. Since Jenna was friends with Mason in high school, it makes it a bit easier to get to know him. It looks like Mason really doesn't want to kill the vampires. Of course, Damon has a way of making everyone want to kill him and Mason is just as conniving as Damon, if not more so! Really though, with this group there's never any telling who is pulling the strings.

This sleepy little town was a lot better off before all these vampires showed up. They seem to be able to wreak havoc on everyone and everything without even thinking much. The relationship drama alone keeps things continually interesting. I mean, really; how could any relationship survive when a psychopath is killing anyone to keep them apart? Of course, you can always try to kill the psychopath, but sometimes there are even worse consequences to that as they will quickly find out. Then there are always more psychopaths out there and this town seems to draw them all. As many people as get killed and go missing here, you'd think everyone would just move away. There are definitely worse things out there than Katherine, things that can't be killed easily at all. It seems like every vampire story has the "old ones" or whatever they call their original vampires, and the old ones here are definitely worse than Katherine and they really want Elena. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is apparently the oldest vampire ever and wants her found. This season is mainly divided between the werewolf legends and dealing with the werewolves, and the original vampires and how they deal with them. Sometimes it's good to have them not hate you, especially if you're a vampire like Damon that likes to piss off werewolves. I'm really not sure how Damon has lived this long, to be honest!

I must mention that Nina Dobrev does such an amazing job switching between Elena and Katherine that most of the time I really think it's a different actress. The personalities are so opposite, but you can tell easily which one she is because she's so good at switching personalities. The rest of the cast is amazing as well. You really believe their characters 100%. Of course, the quality of the Blu-ray really helps that. When you're watching vampires, you know that they can see things so much sharper than us humans. Having the sharp picture almost gives us the feeling of being super-human as well, not to mention the surround sound and quality allows you to really feel as if you were in the show with the vampires and werewolves hunting all around you!

I have really loved The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Second Season. Honestly, I didn't watch it over the normal TV season and I had really forgotten about it until I got this season in, but it was really easy to pick up right where it left off and get completely addicted all over again. The Salvatore brothers are such fun to watch that you just can't stop, not to mention there are several special features that give you even more info about the cast, crew, and story, and deleted scenes as well. I highly recommend that you catch up on The Vampire Diaries today!
