Lizzie proclaims that she wants the basement for her room. Molly, who has a bit of a supernatural gift for knowing when the phone will ring and other odd things, thinks that the space is totally creepy. Rachel says that Lizzie can have the room to make her happy. She really doesn't want her to be sleeping that far away from her, but teenage girls like their privacy. When they are checking out the basement room, they find a hole in one wall and a huge space behind it. Marty says he'll fix it and even give her that extra space back. They make tearing down the old wall a family affair and have a demolition party to do it. Still though, everything is looking up.
Molly, of course, is the first to actually see a ghost, given her extra perceptions, but her mom thinks she's just imagining things. Lizzie finds an old jewelry box with an old picture hidden inside. It seems that there is definitely a secret in the house and it centers on the basement and a young girl about Lizzie's age. When Rachel wakes up to Lizzie's screams from being locked in the closet trying desperately to claw her way out, she rushes Lizzie to the hospital. The doctor tells Rachel that it was just a night terror and that Lizzie will be fine. Molly knows that isn't the case though. Unfortunately for this family, just when they think that things are fixed, they're worse than ever! Can they stick together as a family to overcome the evil Secrets in the Walls?
As far as haunted house movies go, Secrets in the Walls is about average. The acting is well done and the effects are good, which is important when you're dealing with a ghost. You need the actual ghost to look right. The plot is pretty predictable and follows the same path as quite a few other movies. There was nothing that actually shocked me or was unexpected. It was all exactly as I figured things would happen. Still though, it was enjoyable. If you're looking for a decent haunted house movie, if a bit predictable, you might try Secrets in the Walls.
