Aside from Alex and Dave, the rest of the group is comprised of Alex's sister, Jane (Eliza Coupe) and her husband, Brad (Damon Wayans, Jr.); Penny (Casey Wilson), a longtime high school friend always looking for love; and Max (Adam Pally), an atypical gay man who loves sports and is a big ole slob.
At first, Dave is devastated, especially since Alex went on their honeymoon without him, and the gang is just trying to get him out of his slump. Eventually, Dave and Alex come to terms with the fact that they still care about one another and decide to remain friends; especially since the group is having a hard time doing things with both of them while keeping them separate, and secretive, friend-rotating breakfasts are too difficult.
The group will go through Brad trying to fix up Max with a co-worker, Alex and Dave trying to get their matching tattoos removed, Penny deciding she needs a better "gay husband" than Max, and even a visit from Brad's unemotional father (and actual father in real life, Damon Wayans). The cast is absolutely hysterical and really work well together. I loved the show from the first episode and, normally, a cast will take some time to learn to gel, but not these guys. They are each funny in their own way and really work to bring together a delightful show with great pop culture references and laugh-out-loud moments. In fact, while I was watching it, Geck0 and JR Nip sat in for a moment and ended up staying for the entire disc of episodes because they just couldn't break away.
As for special features, you've got a hearty helping of deleted scenes and outtakes, which were fun, two featurettes on the fashion of the show, a comedic interview with cast members Adam Pally and Casey Wilson, plus a Mike Relm music remix and a parody theme song. I could do without the interview and the music numbers, but I loved the deleted scenes and outtakes and really enjoyed the brief featurettes on the fashion styles of the characters.
Happy Endings is fun, hip and really hysterical. I can't recommend it more highly if you like good TV. Check it out.
