I should start this by telling you that the majority of the movie is in black and white, except for the memories. The Hagstone Demon opens with Mrs. Brennan (Marilyn Murray) reading tea leaves for Douglas (Mark Borchardt) after he fixes her sink. She tells him that a woman who was important to him whose name begins with a J will be coming back. He assures her that this is not going to happen. That night, he dreams of his ex-wife Julie (Gizelle Erickson), who died years ago from a gunshot. She killed herself to get away from a cult. This is just the beginning of the nightmare for Douglas, a nightmare that has come back to haunt him from his past. Douglas is the new caretaker of a building, the Hagstone, which has been condemned and will be gone in a few more months. The remaining tenants include Mrs. Brennan, Mr. Witkowski , Barbara Halloway (Cyndi Kurtz) and her son, and Bill Thompson (Jay Smiley). Bill Thompson has been there longer than anyone according to his statements. Bill tells Douglas that there is a homeless girl living in the storage room at the end of the hall, so Doug says that he'll go remove her. Her name is Karna (Nadine Gross). He tells Karna that she can stay since they're tearing down the building soon anyway. Instead of saying thanks, she just asks him to fix the toilet. Douglas doesn't know quite what to make of Karna.

Douglas goes on vacation the day after that for a couple of days to visit his ex-brother-in-law, Carl, who was ordained a priest the day after his sister Julie died. Carl tells his friends that Douglas was a great reporter once, so we have to assume that Douglas's life went downhill after Julie's death. When Douglas gets back, Mrs. Brennan tells him that Mr. Witkowski has left his stuff in the washer for two days, so Douglas has to take care of it. He finds Mr. Witkowski dead in his apartment. Karna finds Douglas in the laundry that morning and asks him to come fix her toilet at 7 that night. When he gets there, he finds her totally naked and getting ready. Before he can fix the toilet, he has to feed her ugly cat fishheads. She tells him that she's just been using Mr. Witkowski's toilet, which makes Douglas very suspicious. He follows her out that night to see what this mysterious woman does. He sees her sell flowers out of the trunk of her car to one man only and drive off. The next day, he digs up the gun that his wife killed herself with. He had buried it the day after she died.

Karna tries to seduce him the next day in his apartment. Later, he comes back home from the store and finds Mrs. Brennan dead on the stairs. When he goes to take Karna's cat home, he finds her birth certificate on the floor and it says that her name is Mary Anne Riley. He finds that Mary Anne Riley died a few years before, so if that is the case, how is she still living in the apartment? Barbara interrupts his reading to tell him that she's been seeing things in her apartment. He interrupts her and tells her that she needs to leave. He has to get her out of his business so he can solve the mystery of Mary Anne. His first stop is to visit Mary Anne's parents. He tells them that their daughter's grave is empty and he believes that she's still alive. Of course, now Douglas has the detective that is investigating Mr. Witkowski and Mrs. Brennan's deaths following him and trying to figure out if he had anything to do with the deaths. This is going to make it even harder for him to figure everything out. Can he solve the mystery and close the chapter on his past?

There are quite a few Special Features in addition to the movie. Dollface is a short film by one of the producers, Jon Springer. It's about a woman who moves into a new apartment and paints a doll that she finds there. It is mostly in black and white as well. Fair warning, it's got one of the creepiest endings I've seen in a long time, but then eerie dolls and kids tend to creep me out easily! It's about 20 minutes long. There is also an alternate opening and deleted scenes. I liked the alternate opening as it lets you know a bit more about Douglas's past, which might have been helpful to know earlier. The Deleted Scenes were interesting as well. The Blu-ray quality of the movie is quite nice and even the short Dollface is wonderful quality. One thing to note, the audio defaults to 2.0 for some odd reason, so if you want 5.1 Surround, you need to make sure to go select it.

The Hagstone Demon is a decent horror film, but I did find it to be a bit confusing at times. You really won't understand the movie until after it is over and I'm not sure I understood it all even then. Not all of the acting is the best, but it's still a decent movie if you're bored and looking for a horror to watch.
