Over the years, Nickelodeon has aired some fairly twisted cartoons, some aimed solely at kids and some meant for adults as well. CatDog in concept is just a strange idea. You don't want to think too hard about the concept of a cat and a dog joined at the waist so that there is no tail end of either of them. Even the opening shows Cat licking a hairball and Dog coughing it up, so yeah, don't think about the logistics because the situations that it shows are quite interesting and unique.

Obviously, the main characters in CatDog are Cat and Dog. They are conjoined twins of a sort. They are attached at the waist with no tail and each control two paws. Their heads face in opposite directions so when one is walking forwards the other is walking backwards, except when one is walking on their own two paws so that the other looks like a normal head. They live together in a house that is shaped like a fish on one side and a bone on the other. It's a normal house with a bedroom and a kitchen and a bathroom, but there are little differences like a cutout in the bathroom door so that one can use it privately (just don't ask how they go to the bathroom). Winslow also lives in the house with them. He is a small, blue mouse who lives in their walls. Cat really doesn't like him living there, but Winslow does what he wants to. Of course, Cat really doesn't act like he likes like anyone, like most cats. Dog loves everyone, like most dogs. As if being permanently connected isn't enough, they have totally different personalities, opinions, and desires, which makes for interesting decisions as to how to spend their free time.

Whatever they decide to do with their free time, it usually involves trying to avoid certain people, like the Greaser Dogs. Shriek, Lube, and the leader, Cliff, make up the gang known as the Greaser Dogs. It seems like their sole purpose is beat up and torture CatDog. Unbeknownst to the rest though, Shriek is secretly in love with Dog. Rancid Rabbit seems to be everywhere as well, restaurant manager, vet, manager of a food tasting facility, and many other places, and it just depends on his mood if he likes CatDog or not. They do have at least one friend other than Winslow and his name is Dunlop. He tries to help them at times.

In CatDog: Season 1 - Part 1, the pair have many varied adventures. In the very first episode, Cat decides that he wants to be normal and has Dog hide in a costume so he can be "alone." Cat learns an important lesson when he figures out that he really does like having Dog around. Unfortunately, this isn't a lesson that he remembers all the time, which is evident later on when they end up cutting everything in half in an argument over possessions. Once, a trip to the beach ends up with them having fleas. Given Cat's total paranoid fear of water, they have to use a flea belt instead of a bath, which is a very bad fashion statement. Cat then refuses to wear it, so he's covered in fleas when Dog is fine. Once again, Dog's generosity prevails and Cat learns a lesson. Cat isn't always the one in the wrong though. Dog has his "time of the month" during the full moon. It turns him into a coyote and makes him aggressive so he wants to join Cliff's gang. After he passes the test and is accepted, is he ever going to go back to being just nice, sweet Dog? Sometimes, they both can pull together. I love the episode where they're bike-wrecked on "Traffic Island." Why they didn't take the car I have no clue, but it's a funny episode. The episode shows that you can really look on the bright side of anything, at least until a street-sweeper shows up. Then things start to get really twisted!

A lot of the episodes involve the Greaser Dogs. As much as the Greaser Dogs are saved by CatDog, you'd think they'd at least stop torturing them, but some things and people never change. When Cliff has Eddie the Squirrel glued to his back, the Greaser Dogs kick him out because he's a "two-headed freak" like CatDog. Eddie is happy with this since he just wants to be a dog. He'd rather be a Greaser Dog, but at least being stuck to Cliff, he has a friend. Of course, the obvious answer for Cliff is to just take off his jacket since Eddie is glued to the jacket, but nobody goes for the obvious easy answer in CatDog. Cliff's choice is to go to CatDog to learn how to live like they do. While it looks like Cliff has learned his lesson on how to treat people, sometimes you just can't teach an old dog new tricks. When Cat saved Lube's life by removing a tick (dogs are very scared of ticks), Lube quits the Greaser Dogs to be with Cat. These are just some of their adventures with the Greasers.

I loved CatDog when it originally came on TV. It's not really one that is geared towards adults most of the time, but it is quite entertaining for kids and adults. The quality of the video isn't always perfect, but you don't really notice it most of the time. If you're looking for an entertaining cartoon, check out CatDog: Season 1 - Part 1 today.
