The Watch: Ruder, Cruder & Lewder Edition stars Ben Stiller (Evan), Vince Vaughn (Bob), Jonah Hill (Franklin), and Richard Ayoade (Jamarcus) as four members of the Glenview, Ohio community who ban together to form a local neighborhood watch following the brutal murder of one of Evan’s employees at the local Costco. While Evan is a more by-the-books sort of a guy, Bob places more importance on things like having bad-assed personalized jackets for the members of "The Watch." Franklin is pretty militant about the whole thing, having been rejected by the police force, whereas Jamarcus is new to town and simply wants to get more involved in the community. Oh, and he has a sexual fantasy that he is looking to fulfill about a scared Asian housewife who needs assistance.

At first, it’s just fun and games with Evan trying to run a proper meeting, while Bob usurps his authority by having the coolest man-cave in town and therefore, a much more fun place to meet. But what will The Watch do when they unearth an actual alien invasion plot? There are also several wacky subplots going on such as Bob’s attempts to keep his hot teenaged daughter apart from the local high school stud; Franklin’s ridiculous hatred for the local police force for not hiring him, specifically Officer Bressman (Will Forte), who is investigating the original murder; Evan’s new neighbor and whether he is a perv, an alien, or an alien perv; and finally, Evan’s wife, Abby (Rosemarie DeWitt) and her intense desire to have a child which means Evan is always on-call for ovulation time.

The Watch: Ruder, Cruder & Lewder Edition is a funny movie, but as the title implies, it is a raunch-filled extravaganza complete with incredibly foul language, nudity (there’s an orgy scene, after all), and some cow explosions. Yes, you read that right. Basically, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill play their roles in a very over-the-top manner, as is expected, while Ben Stiller plays the straight man and Richard Ayoade plays the not-quite-right fourth wheel. Special features include a nice selection of deleted scenes, a gag reel, Jonah Hill riffing on alternate takes, a featurette on Doug Jones who plays the alien, a making-of/ cast interview featurette and a short spoof featurette.

If you like the cast of characters, you’ll probably enjoy this film, but I watched it with my mom and it was a little awkward, to say the least. There were some truly ridiculous and hilarious moments, but it was a little unnecessarily crude for me, and I am not a prude when it comes to comedy. If you don’t offend easily and you can take some of the raunch with a grain of salt, you’ll more than likely enjoy this film.
