Anger Management is the perfect follow-up vehicle for Sheen's career. Some of his embarrassing past personal issues are touched upon in the series and lend comedic relief with his indelicate opinions. The talented supporting cast includes ex-wife Jennifer (Shawnee Smith), 13-year-old daughter Sam (Daniela Bobadilla), and friendly neighbor Mike (Michael Boatman). The anger management group includes outspoken and generally politically incorrect senior citizen Ed (Barry Corbin); Nolan (Derek Richardson) with a poor self-image, but with enough bravado to try to seduce the new and sexy patient, Lacey (Noureen Dewulf), who attends by court order because she shot her boyfriend in the balls for cheating; and then there's stylish and gay Patrick (Michael Ardan) who lives with his mother -- and they all make for a controversial mix.
The show nicely pivots around therapist Goodson and his somewhat managed life with ex-wife Jennifer receiving alimony and trying to find a productive occupation and life partner, and naive and intuitive daughter Sam struggling with OCD and trying to navigate the waters of puberty. Charlie does seem to find relaxation with "benefits" friend and therapist Kate Wales (Selma Blair) that adds the "adult" ingredient to the show.
Anger Management's Special Features include "Anger Mismanagement" (Gags), "Charlie's Baby" (New Interview with Charlie Sheen), "Behind the Couch" (Meet Charlie's Patients On Set with Therapy Group), Lionsgate's previews and bookmarks. The first season consists of two-disks of hilarity in 10 episodes, and Blu-ray high def lends its awesome color and crispness to complete the package.
The first episode might be a little tense, but as you watch the show's progress, you will become more accustomed to the cast and their relationships. The plot seems to be quite unique and believable, the acting is more engaged and relaxed, and the comedy is non-stop. With this combination of Sheen and his TV baby, this broad audience is once again provided with a show we can "count" on… and by the way, FX just picked up the sit-com for another 90 episodes!
Anger Management is a raucous adult comedy that commands parents' caution; the show includes sex, nudity and profanity. However, for viewers who enjoy adult comedy, the series is genuinely funny, containing great writing with a prominent and skillful cast. And, most of all, for those who are Charlie's fans, they can take a deep breath of relief that he's predictably back as funny as ever on our TV sets!
