One day, the pair kidnaps the wrong dog, a little Shih Tzu named Bonny who happens to be the pride and joy of a maniacal gangster named Charlie (Woody Harrelson) and Charlie will stop at absolutely nothing to get Bonny back, up to and including leaving a trail of bloody corpses in his wake. As Charlie violently searches for his dog, Marty, Billy and Hans will all become inextricably involved in his quest, providing plenty of screenwriting fodder for Marty’s script. Along the way, Marty will also learn things about Billy and Hans that he never knew and he’ll discover more than his share of psychopaths. The trick will be surviving the ride.
Seven Psychopaths is, quite simply, an insane movie but it's great fun. The acting is brilliant and the cast works together beautifully. Any opportunity to watch Walken in action is a treat, but he is especially golden in the role of Hans. Rockwell does crazy well and this role is no different, although he is absolutely hysterical and Farrell is also quite believable as the frustrated alcoholic writer. Abbie Cornish, Gabourey Sidibe, Olga Kurylenko, Tom Waits and Harry Dean Stanton also make appearances as Marty’s girlfriend, Charlie’s dog walker, Charlie’s girlfriend, and a pair of psychos, respectively. Special features are short and sweet and include brief featurettes covering the locations, some of the cast, and Writer/Director Martin McDonagh bringing the film to the screen. My favorite featurette, however, is called Seven Psychocats and it's basically a super short version of the film done with cats. Think Kill Bill meets LOL cats.
Overall, this is a highly violent but fantastic movie. If you enjoy dark comedy and don’t mind a little blood spray, check out Seven Psychopaths because it’s just awesome.
