  • The Making of Kill For Me

Amanda (Katie Cassidy) is having a difficult time since her best friend and roommate, Natalie (Leah Gibson), mysteriously went missing after work some six months ago. Her other roommate is pushing to fill Natalie’s bedroom with a new tenant since they can no longer keep paying Natalie’s portion of the rent, and along comes Hailey (Tracy Spiridakos). She’s new to the college, seems nice and quiet, and looks like she’ll fit the bill. As if dealing with Natalie’s loss and a new addition to the house weren’t enough, Amanda’s abusive and violent ex-boyfriend (Torrance Coombs) is stalking her and making her life miserable. When Hailey walks in on him getting physical with Amanda, she intervenes, getting knocked around a bit herself but successfully running him off. As Amanda and Hailey break the ice, Amanda learns that Hailey has a dark past with an abusive father and the two begin to bond. Things take a wrong turn when he returns to seek revenge and Hailey defends Amanda, saving her life but brutally ending his in the process. Hailey then convinces Amanda that no one will believe they acted in self-defense and that they must cover up the entire incident.

As tormented as Amanda is by what they did, she is somewhat relieved to have her ex out of her life. She soon realizes that she is involved in something far worse than she ever could have imagined when Hailey insists that she now return the favor by offing her dad. When Hailey ups the ante by kidnapping a friend of Amanda’s as insurance that she commit the murderous act, Amanda feels like she has nowhere to turn. Before it all comes to an explosive end, Amanda won’t know who is the victim and who is the killer.

I’ll admit that about 10 minutes into the film, I had it all figured out, or at least I thought I did. It seemed pretty obvious to me what was going on and I felt like the sexual situations between Hailey and Amanda seemed forced, like they were thrown in there just to titillate the audience, especially because it seemed like things happened pretty quick since the girls only just met. As the movie went on, it seemed to follow down the path I assumed it would and was pretty standard stuff - not great and not bad. That being said, the last 15 minutes of the movie completely twisted things askew and brought about not only a really good and satisfying ending, but a completely unexpected one that I truly didn’t see coming. I’m a fan of psychological thrillers and Kill For Me didn’t disappoint. As far as special features go, there’s only a making-of featurette included; it’s interesting, but nothing groundbreaking. Kill For Me would make a good rental for a dark and rainy night. While it started off with the standard fare and seemed a bit cliché, I ended up enjoying it a good bit and it surprised me.
