Digimon: Digital Monsters - The Official Second Season starts off a few years after the First Season and, for the most part, focuses on the younger kids from that group as well as a few new faces.

It's been three years since the eight DigiDestined saved both the real and digital world from the evil Digimon, but it seems their help is needed again as a growing threat looms. Agumon calls Tai back to the Digital World where they discover an odd looking Digi-Egg with Tai's Crest of Courage engraved on it. Unfortunately, he can't lift it, and when he tries, three bright lights go shooting off away from the egg.

Meanwhile, in the real world, T.K. and Kari have started off a day of school fairly well and T.K. has even met three new kids. Davis, who thinks Kari is his girl, reminds T.K. a lot of Tai, while Cody is a quiet, introspective boy and Yolei seems to have a knack for computers and works at her parents' convenience store. At first, these three kids seem like your average middle schoolers, but when T.K., Kari and Davis are sucked into a nearby computer when Tai attempts to move the Digi-Egg, it seems the Digital World needs more than just the original DigiDestined. Before the first episode is over, not only do the five younger kids have new Digivices, but Davis also has a Digimon named Veemon and he can use the strange Digi-Egg to Armor Digivolve and turn into Flamdramon.

As it turns out, the new threat is another human in the Digital World. The Digimon Emperor has placed black spires throughout the world and they keep the Digimon from Digivolving normally. With Armor Digivolving at their disposal, not only does Flamdramon become a fighting force, but Patamon can become Pegasusmon, Gatomon can become Nefertimon and Cody's Digimon, Armadillomon and Yolei's Hawkmon can also Digivolve into Digimon and Halsemon respectively.

As the new DigiDestined go against the Digimon Emperor, they pick up a few more Digi-Eggs and the three new kids each get a second Armor Digivolution and it isn't long before they learn the the true identity of the Digimon Emperor is a boy from the real world who also holds a new Digivice and has a Digimon companion. Just when the kids think they've brought peace to the Digital World again, they learn that Ken (AKA The Digimon Emperor) was just a pawn and there is a much bigger threat that seems bent on destroying the Digital World, not just ruling it.

The last half of the season throws a few twists at the viewers as the origins of the Digital World are revealed and old enemies resurface. It will take the might of more than just these six main kids to stop the real threat, but saying much more would reveal way too much about how this season plays out.

Like the first season of the show, Digimon: Digital Monsters - The Official Second Season comes with a booklet that goes over the main characters and it also has an art gallery of the enemies in this season, though I did find it a bit disturbing that some of the names were mixed up.

Despite that minor issue, Digimon: Digital Monsters - The Official Second Season is a great DVD set for any fan of Digimon. This season does a great job of continuing the story from the previous season, not to mention adding a good bit of closure to the story. After this season, each Digimon show becomes a one-off stand-alone series with some added twists to the basic premise that is Digimon.
