Superman: Unbound is a story of Superman, but it’s also the story of Supergirl. Being a teenager isn’t easy. There’s all sorts of excess hormones and you never really understand what’s going on or what you can do about it. If you’re Supergirl, things are even more difficult. Her family and everyone she knew was captured or killed when the villain Brainiac attacked her planet. He just took the entire city of Kandor, capital of Krypton, and left a huge hole in the ground where it had been. Now she has come to live on Earth with her cousin Kal, as she calls him. The rest of us mortals know him as Superman (or Clark Kent). On her home world, Supergirl or Kara as she was called there, was normal with no super powers, but just like Superman, once the yellow sun that Earth orbits shone upon her, she too was endowed with powers like Superman making her no longer powerless to stop evil things like Brainiac.

In Metropolis, Supergirl gets to Lois Lane and rescues her before Superman can get there. Of course, she has a tendency to overdo things. Luckily for the villains, Superman gets there before she takes out anyone. Personally, I agree with Kara’s methods, but she doesn’t have the same respect for human life that Superman does, because she’s still just a teen. Lois tries to help out and at least give her someone to talk to other than Clark’s adopted parents. As far as Lois and Clark go, Lois is a bit upset that Clark doesn’t want to tell anyone they’re in a relationship. He says that it is to protect her if anyone ever finds out that he’s Superman, but she’s sick of him trying to protect her from everything.

When Superman takes out a drone from outer space, he takes the now deactivated robot back to his lair. When Supergirl sees it, she freaks out. This drone came from Brainiac. Superman heads out to space to try and stop Brainiac from coming to Earth and leaves Supergirl in charge of planet Earth while he is gone. Kara seems to be taking care of the whole planet, other than Metropolis. Meanwhile, out in space, Superman is having a lot more trouble than he expected with Brainiac. On the positive side, he gets to meet up with some old friends and family that he never thought he would see again. Superman is really going to have to work on this one and Supergirl is going to have to put her fears aside if they’re going to save Earth!

There are quite a few special features on the DVD and two extra features exclusive to the Blu-ray. Personally, I liked the preview of another movie best, but I always like having something to look forward to. Of course on the Blu-ray, I really liked "Kandor: History of the Bottle City." The cities inside the bottles are fascinating to me, so that was neat to get to learn more about them. If you have a Blu-ray player, I highly recommend you watch the hi-def version. The quality is so much crisper and the audio is true HD quality. Plus, you get the extra features including the audio commentary option.

If you’re a fan of Superman or any of the super heroes, I recommend that you go pick up Superman: Unbound. It follows the comics pretty well and was quite enjoyable.
