The 1963 blockbuster movie, The Courtship of Eddie's Father, is a charming comedy-drama directed by Oscar winning director Vincente Minnelli (American in Paris, Gigi). The movie boasts a stellar cast including Glenn Ford (Blackboard Jungle, Superman The Movie) as Tom Corbett, the handsome, recently-widowed father; Shirley Jones (Music Man, The Partridge Family) as his deceased wife's best friend and neighbor, Elizabeth Marten; Stella Stevens (Girls! Girls! Girls!) as Dollye Daly, an innocent beauty queen seeking self-improvement and confidence; Dina Merrill The Player)as Rita Behrens, a raven-haired, career-minded socialite; comedian Roberta Sherwood as Mrs. Livingston, the clear-headed judicious housekeeper who brings stability to the family's life; and bachelor disc jockey friend Jerry Van Dyke (The Dick Van Dyke Show, Coach) as Norman Jones, trying to regenerate his friend's love life. The movie later became the successful television series by the same name starring Bill Bixby, Brandon Cruz, and Miyoshi Umeki.

The Courtship of Eddie's Father is a domestic story about an attractive widower who is trying to harmonize family life for himself and his motherless pre-teen son, Eddie (Ron Howard, The Andy Griffith Show, Happy Days). Help comes in the form of a well-adjusted housekeeper, Mrs. Livingston, who imparts common sense and stability to their maladjusted life. Eddie, unable to deal with his grief, is sent into a tirade of hysterics when one of his goldfish dies, and is rescued by his neighbor, Elizabeth Marten, who soothes the situation with her compassionate nursing skills.

Eddie, observing his father's loneliness, picks up beautiful red-headed beauty queen Dollye Daly at a New York game arcade. The trio share a meal and Tom, disinterested in dating, plans to introduce her to Norman. This opens the door to much thought and planning on Eddie's decision to find a new mother for himself and a wife for his father!

Eddie's choice, naturally, is Elizabeth -- she's beautiful, kind, nurturing, and the next door neighbor. The only problem is the couple seem to ignite each others' temper, and their conversations always end in an argument. Second contender in Eddie's marriage trap is Dollye, but she seems interested in Norman. Then enters the third and last female vying for available sexy Tom Corbett, and that's the career-minded sophisticate, Rita Behrens. She's beautiful, rich, established and very interested in making their friendship into a permanent relationship. But according to scrutinizing Eddie, Rita is a bad woman who has big boobs and skinny eyes, not like Elizabeth who has medium boobs and round eyes, like his mother, a good lady. But dad has his sights fixed on Rita.

The Special Features include a "Feature Length Commentary" by the leading ladies: Jones, Stevens and Merrill revealing many facts about the making of the movie, the cast, and sets. "Behind the Scenes" and "Cast & Crew" were printed notations sharing team efforts of producer Joe Pasternak and Vincente Minnelli, and Ronny Howard and Shirley Jones in their movie Music Man and their further career roles and successes.

The Courtship of Eddie's Father is a heartfelt movie about the struggles of sudden single parenthood and its emotional aftermath. The bond of father and son as they outreach for comfort and security is embracing. This is a tender and touching movie that will warm everyone's heart and a great addition to your family library.
