The Courtship of Eddie's Father: The Complete First Season is a heartwarming family classic loosely based on the 1963 film of the same name. Co-star James Komack (Norman Tinker, Damn Yankees) was the guiding force behind the series that focuses on the relationship of young Eddie Corbett (Brandon Cruz, Bad News Bears) and his father, Tom (Bill Bixby, The Incredible Hulk). The pair are taken care of by their humble and loving housekeeper, Mrs. Livingston (Miyoshi Umeki, Flower Drum Song), who brings Asian wisdom to some unsettling situations. Editor Tom and Photographer Norman work for Tomorrow Magazine. Their groovy and mod assistant, Tina Rickles (Kristina Holland, Wait Till Your Father Gets Home) always adds a touch of style and zaniness. A young Jodi Foster (The Brave One) as Joey Kelly appears as Eddie's nemesis, but understanding turns to friendship for the pair as can be seen in this and future episodes.

The Courtship of Eddie's Father: The Complete First Season is a wholesome story about a father and son who cling to each other in the wake of the loss of their wife/mother. Eddie, feeling lost without the maternal tenderness of his mother, is constantly searching for a wife for his father and a replacement mother for himself. His eagerness finds Eddie arranging meetings for his father that creates some awkward situations. Mix in Norman and Tina with their problem-solving skills, and Mrs. Livingston rendering peace and balance "Japanese style," and you have a fun-loving show that gives sensible solutions to family problems of the late 1960s.

Even though there are no features or subtitles, this release from Warner Bros. displays all The Courtship of Eddie's Father: The Complete First Season episodes presented in their original uncut form and each running approximately 26 minutes. Singer Harry Nilsson and composer George Aliceson Tipton created and performed the title song that gently flows throughout the episodes. Before-and-after montage exhibits conversations with Eddie and Tom in natural settings that sets such a special, sensitive father/son mood. Many of your favorite actors have made appearances on the show: Ann Prentiss (My Stepmother Is An Alien), Diana Muldaur (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Bill Dana (The Bill Dana Show), Pat Morita (The Karate Kid), Cicely Tyson (The Help), David Ketchum (Get Smart), Ruth McDevitt (The War Between Men and Women), and Tippi Hedren (The Birds) appear, plus many others.

The Courtship of Eddie's Father: The Complete First Season is a must-have for your family library, and I am anxiously awaiting the Second and Third Seasons. Even though it is set in the late 1960s, the styles have changed, but some family situations remain the same, and this series offers laughs, solutions, understanding, and love. Bill Bixby was known as a "nice guy," and you can count on this series being compassionate and having tasteful life-lessons for children and parents.
