Based on novels by Maureen Jennings, Acorn Media's Murdoch Mysteries: Season 6 has matured into an intriguing and entertaining historical forensic adventure pregnant with inventions, scientific discoveries, and literary figures at the dawn of the 20th century.

Handsome Canadian actor Yannick Bisson (Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye) leads the cast as the exacting Detective William Murdoch who continually substantiates his worthiness to the Toronto Constabulary with his innovative evidence-gathering techniques. Chief Inspector Brackenreid (Gemini winner Thomas Craig, Where the Heart Is) plays the faithful superior critical of his 'coppers,' but willing to not only stand by Murdoch's side, but puts his own reputation on the line.

In Murdoch Mysteries: Season 6, romantic relationships have blossomed into a more intimate level, while interpersonal relationships are strengthened in loyalty, devotion and dedication. Amour delightfully flourishes between Murdoch and his secret love, Dr. Julia Ogden (Gemini winner Hélène Joy, Durham County), and the young enthusiastic Constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris, Hatching, Matching, and Dispatching) shares a spontaneous passionate kiss with the attractive young coroner, Dr. Emily Grace (Georgina Reilly, The L.A. Complex).

Mystery and intrigue abounds in episodes filled with espionage and the theft of a stolen air machine; a young Winston Churchill joins forces with Murdoch to clear himself as the prime suspect in a mysterious death; a delusional Sherlock Holmes helps in an investigative process and finds answers to his own psychological problems; a deadly gas threatens the city; an illuminated ghost seeks revenge; the Victoria Cross is returned as a symbol of honor; rituals and mystery shroud the drowning deaths of several educated young ladies; and Murdoch and Dr. Ogden express their love, seek a solution to their divorce dilemma, and find themselves entangled in a scheme created by Murdoch's nemesis entrapping the couple in crime, imprisonment, and punishment. And, certainly one of the most entertaining episodes is when a body turns up on the property of a nudist colony, and Crabtree is selected to go under cover – or should I say "uncovered" – to investigate the colony's members.

Murdoch Mysteries: Season 6 is an insightful series of Canadian Victorian suspense and boasts strong writing with broadened character development to create a captivating relationship with the viewer. Inventions that are now considered routine crime-gathering techniques were born at the turn of the century, while present-day societal advances have made everyday life easier to navigate. Dr. Ogden, with her desire to make the world a better and safer place for women, steps on society's toes as she educates, counsels and cares for women's issues, and pushes for greater understanding and equality in a man's world.

While Murdoch Mysteries: Season 6 does not have any special features, you'll enjoy the energizing acting of many renowned actors such as Peter Keleghan (The Red Green Show), Geraint Wyn Davies (24, Slings & Arrows), Thomas Howes (Downton Abbey), Sheila McCarthy (Little Mosque on the Prairie), Matthew Bennett (Battlestar Galactica), and Paula Brancati (Degrassi: The Next Generation, Being Erica), just to name a few. Caution to parents: Episode 5, "Murdoch Au Naturel," does contain mild nudity.

Murdoch Mysteries: Season 6 is period drama at its best with authentic scenes, costumes and writing. With acting this good, there's no need to question whether or not another season will follow. If you've not joined the fans of the Murdoch Mysteries, don't hesitate – you'll be glad you did.
