Mind of Mencia: Season 3 Uncensored puts Carlos Mencia back on the center stage with his sketch-comedy show that isn't afraid to insult any and everybody. Based on what I've seen, Carlos is what my Dad called "an equal opportunity discriminator." It doesn't matter what race or religion you are, he will make fun of it and probably make some crack based off of a stereotype.

Most episodes start with a skit that is somehow related to current events. One of my favorite has to be the family that sits Carlos down and tells him his show is just "too edgy" and they will have to block it. I love this skit because Carlos comes out and says that TV isn't responsible for misbehaving kids, it's the parent's jobs to properly discipline their children. The rest of the episode is typically filled with standup and maybe one other skit. Unfortunately, I found Mencia's standup to be less than stellar most of the time. I found that, while his jokes aren't exactly the same, there are enough common themes to guess what he is going to talk about. Also, it seems like Carlos just doesn't know what to do on stage where he can be seen. Before this series, I've only experience Mencia via the radio (specifically the XM Comedy Channel) and his comedy just seems to work better when he isn't dancing about, distracting me from what he is saying.

Of course, this is the third season of the show, so apparently there are enough people out there who like his style of comedy. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just very hit or miss for me. I found that I would typically laugh out loud once per episode, and for a show that is all about comedy and standup, that's not really a good track record.

I do have to say I agree with his general message of "words are just words" and they don't have power unless you give them power. There is a common theme in most of his work to support freedom of speech.

If you are already a fan of Carlos Mencia, then Mind of Mencia: Season 3 Uncensored should definitely find its way on your shelf. At $20.00 for 13 episodes, it may even be worth it even to casual fans. One very nice feature to this collection is the amount of deleted scenes from the show. There was so much extra footage that I wasn't able to watch all of it (and still meet my deadline, that is).
