Jimmy quickly puts the experience behind him and makes his way back home, but when a deal comes through from Dallas (something the psychic predicted) and his team wins the game even though one of the major players has an injury, Jimmy starts to wonder if the psychic was legit. Jimmy convinces his friend, Ed (William Fichtner), and girlfriend, Deirdre (Piper Perabo) that he needs to run an errand and heads back to the psychic to find out exactly what he saw. Eventually, he is told that the man saw "no more days" and Jimmy would die soon. When asked how much time he had, the psychic could only say "You're safe until first snow," which is really amazing to Jimmy since the entire movie takes place in the middle of a desert.
When Jimmy returns, he starts to realize that he has recently screwed a lot of people over. Between his business partner that he just nudged out of a deal and a friend and embezzlement partner that Jimmy ratted on a few years back who seems to have just gotten out of prison - he is seeing death around pretty much every corner. Jimmy's attention gets focused on trying to find out if his former friend is out to get him, as well as trying to figure out if there is such a thing as fate. Can Jimmy keep himself from dying come winter or is everything written in stone? Ed tries to convince Jimmy that the man was just an average con-artist and the predictions were pure chance and playing the numbers game.
The movie comes to a head during an unbelievable snow storm (remember, this movie takes place in the desert) in an ending that is pretty fitting for the movie. Ultimately, Jimmy is still left wondering if what happens was going to happen whether he met the psychic or not. After all, he doesn't start looking for his potential death until he's told about it and his experiences are a direct result of that search.
This isn't all that bad of a movie, but I wouldn't recommend paying any kind of money for it. If it comes on HBO or your Netflix queue is running a little low, then sure watch it, but I didn't find myself really caring about the characters and I found my attention wandered a few times during the film.
