So there once was this marine named Sara Mackenzie (Catherine Bell), AKA Mac, and this navy pilot named Harmon Rabb (David James Elliott), AKA Harm. And even though they were in different branches of the military, they worked together, were partners even. Well, at least they were until the end of Season 3 when Harm got his eyesight fixed and was allowed to fly again. He left being a lawyer at JAG to return to flying the blue skies.
As I'm sure you'll guess pretty quickly, Harm is going to return to JAG before long. I mean yeah, flying F-14's has got to be exhilarating, but can it really compare to the satisfaction of uncovering the truth and saving a man's (or woman's) career, possibly their life? Well, me personally, I would stay with the flying, but as my sister keeps saying, "Harm's a boy scout". He's the guy that always tells the truth, the one who tries to save everyone, no matter how hard it is. There are quite a few spectacular stunts that he pulls off in the air before he returns to his desk job.
When Harm does return, he finds that things have changed around the office in his six month absence. Mac has been promoted and is now a higher rank than him. See, there's always been a sexual tension between Harm and Mac. They want each other, but Harm just can't let it happen for some reason. My sister swears it's because they work together, but if that were the case, then Bud (Patrick Labyorteaux) and Harriet's (Karri Turner) successful marriage should show him that co-workers can be together. Anyway, during Season 4, Mic Brumby (Trevor Goddard) joined the JAG team. Mic is a member of the Australian Navy, and my personal favorite character. Honestly I'm don't remember why he's stayed at JAG so long since they covered that in Season 4, but it's no big secret that Mic is in love with Mac. While Harm was gone, Mic at least managed to become good friends with Mac, much to Harm's dismay. Throughout Season 5, there's a continual battle between Harm and Mic for Mac's affection, a physical battle even, which leaves both of them bruised up!
In general, JAG is compromised of "one-off" episodes, meaning if you skip an episode or watch one out of order, you probably won't miss too much of the running plotline. There are several plots that are being set up from time to time. One involves the CIA and one of their agents and another that if I remember correctly, is really going to change Harm's life next season.
The only special feature available is a gag reel on disc 7. It is amusing, but honestly the background music, which almost sounds like a soundtrack from a bad porn, distracted me from the gags. The reel is only 3 minutes long, so don't expect it to make you laugh too much.
So if you enjoy NCIS, you should definitely go pick up JAG: Season Five, and Seasons 1 - 4, while you're at it. If you like Law and Order or any of the other shows in the crime and punishment genre, you'll also love JAG. There's murder, mystery, and even a little romance (but not enough romance to make you want to vomit!). What more could you ask for?
