The strange thing is, on paper, a lot of these skit ideas sound like they're going to be really funny. When I see the title for some of the sketches, it seems like it's going to be crazy, or completely unpredictable. Then when I end up watching the sketch, I have to wonder "is that all they could come up with?" That's not to say there aren't some really great moments here, it just feels like it could have been pulled together and a little more thought could have been put into the writing at times.
There are some really great moments in the deleted scenes that make up for the show's disappointments though. I found myself laughing a lot more when they extended the "Illusionators" sketch where they bring a dead man back to life as a side-note to a typical "guess your card" trick. The son of the dead man goes on and on about how great the trick is as if the revival is just a cool trick and not a miracle. The "Catch a Predator" sketch shows up in the extras as well, and you get to see just how many different lines they went through before one made it to the final cut. Really, I think they should have just left all the lines in there and made a montage of different actors. It's just so wrong that it's funny.
The second disc is filled with extra content like live footage as well. There is commentary, sometimes with a few different commentary tracks on a single episode. In general, the menus are good, as episodes are also split up by skits, so you can navigate straight to what you want to see.
Again, if Human Giant does anything right, it's that it doesn't wear out its welcome. Skits are quick, and back-to-back. The budget is also fairly decent, so they can afford some special effects that are in the "just cheesy enough" range. It hits on all kinds of pop culture and topics, but doesn't date itself too badly. Chances are, somewhere in here, you'll find something that gets you laughing.
