Rita begins to suspect Dexter of hiding things when she discovers Paul was right, but she thinks Dexter is a drug addict, not realizing his true addiction. She insists he get into a program and it is there that he meets the enchanting Lila (Jaime Murray), who is even more crazy that Dexter, himself. Lila sets her sights on Dexter and comes between he and Rita, but soon Dexter realizes that Lila is not someone he wants to associate with. She is a serious player in this season. To complicate matters, Dexter has been unable to kill anyone since his brother because Sgt. Doakes (Erik King) has been constantly tailing him, growing ever closer to the truth. When he finally gets the chance, he can't complete the act and wonders what has happened.
Meanwhile, Deb is having a hard time recovering from her near-death experience with the Ice Truck Killer and moves in with Dex to feel safe. When superstar FBI agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine) is called in to head the team searching for the Bay Harbor Butcher, Deb begins to fall for him. Soon, Doakes has Dexter's number, along with his prized trophy collection, escalating the tension between Dexter and Doakes to an all-out war; but Miami Metro and the FBI will pin the crimes on someone, and it comes down to a contest between Doakes's dogged detective work and Dexter's fancy framing footwork. When Dex makes some startling discoveries about dear old Harry, this only serves to complicate matters and cloud Dexter's judgment. Without Harry's code to follow, what does he have? As Dexter's world begins to close in on him, it seems there's no way for this to end well. Dexter once again combines witty writing with fantastic acting and characters that you love and love to hate; Dexter: The Second Season only adds fuel to the fire. With more twists and turns than you'll know what to do with, it leaves viewers panting for Season Three.
