With this being the last installment of the "Jay and Silent Bob" characters, this movie definitely had more of a moneymaking feel than any other from the series of writer/director Kevin Smith. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was based more on "fart jokes" than it was on a meaningful script. But if you liked Mallrats, you should like this one too. The only difference between the two is that J&SB Strike Back has way more cameos from stars like Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, Chris Rock, Matt Damon, and many, many more. Shannon Elizabeth and Will Ferrell, who were just as hilarious as the stars of the show, played the other characters that had more occurring roles. Elizabeth plays Jay's love interest, only she and some others use Jay and Silent Bob as a diversion as they rob a diamond vault. Will Ferrell plays the dumb-ass Wildlife Federal Marshall who's hot on Jay and Silent Bob's trail. If you're a fan of Ferrell's, then you will definitely love him in this.
Probably the most worthwhile thing of the Jay and Silent Strike Back DVD is all the extra stuff Dimension Films packed onto two discs. There is more than an hour's worth of deleted scenes, with explanations of why things were cut by Kevin Smith and others. Plus, if you have a DVD-ROM, you can put down your own commentary throughout the movie by using the Open-Mic feature. There are so many other things included that I don't have time to mention them all (just read the list at the top of the page). Literally, there is more than three hours of bonus stuff!
Like I said earlier, the script of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was definitely not Smith's finest. I have been a huge fan of his work over the years, but it's safe to say that this movie was geared towards a quick buck and a cheap laugh. The movie does gets funnier each time you watch it, and there is plenty of extra stuff to keep you occupied for hours on end.
