The first time I heard NPR's "Car Talk" show was a few days after Hurricane Katrina. After hours of non-stop radio and TV coverage on nearly every station on the radio dial, I began to search for anything that didn't mention the words, "Hurricane", "Ray Nagin" or "FEMA." That's when I found "Car Talk," and I was hooked from that point on.

For those who haven't heard the show, it is a call-in show focused on car repairs and maintenance. While the subject isn't something I care about beyond keeping my car running, the banter between hosts Tom and Ray Magliozzi is incredibly funny. Plus they know their stuff - so if I ever do have a question, I know who to call. Click & Clack's As the Wrench Turns is a spin-off of the radio show where the two brothers deal with car issues in their shop as well as their producer who tries everything she can to get whip them into shape.

Although the show is a cartoon, it is mostly meant for adults. The show is unquestionably PG, though the humor aims high. In one episode, the guys decide they are Native Americans and turn the shop into a casino. In another, they run for president to earn matching funds for a pledge drive. Some of the jokes are great and really clever, such as a short riff on Rush Limbaugh, though moments like these are in the minority. A big reason for this is that the guys are at their funniest when ad-libbing; something the TV doesn't let them do, so it feels stiff.

Even if you're a die hard "Car Talk" fan, Click & Clack's As the Wrench Turns is a rental. It has its moments, but the humor feels flat and nothing you'll want to keep going back to after the first watch.
