Three-Way Partnership Announced for Dungeon Siege 3

Company: Square Enix
Product: Dungeon Siege 3

Dungeon Siege fans will be happy to know that Dungeon Siege 3 is going to be the result of a partnership between Square Enix, Obsidian Entertainment, and Gas Powered Games. These three companies are very well-known for their impact on the role-playing genre; Square Enix primarily for Final Fantasy, Obsidian for Neverwinter Nights 2 (and another well-known BioWare sequel), and Gas Powered Games for the Dungeon Siege and Supreme Commander franchises.

Dungeon Siege 3's story revolves around the kingdom of Ehb, or more specifically, its fall into chaos. You will be cast as one of the last members of the 10th Legion, a group that now bears a questionable reputation. It will be your job to travel the land, gather companions, rebuild the Legion, and save the kingdom.

The developers of Dungeon Siege 3 have announced some promising features. The game will involve classic character-building and action-RPG elements, as well as the choice-based kind of narrative Obsidian is known for. Those who like to play with others will be happy to know that Dungeon Siege 3 will feature a cooperative multiplayer component.

Square Enix is being forthright about its desire to work with Western developers to evolve the role-playing genre, and the setup they've announced sounds ideal. Gas Powered Games' resident luminary Chris Taylor will serve as an advisor every step of the way; he, Obsidian's Feargus Urquhart and Square Enix's John Yamamoto seem to be thrilled at this partnership.

Square Enix has announced that Dungeon Siege is going to be a multiplatform title; it will be coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
