The Darkness Returns

Company: 2K Games
Product: The Darkness II

2K Games announced the release date for The Darkness II today. The sequel to the 2007 comic-book inspired title will hit shelves October 7, 2011 for the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3.

The Darkness is based on a comic series of the same name that features a "hero" whose power is based on the darkness itself. As long as there are shadows, there is power and the creatures that give him his power react poorly to the light. One of the major mechanics of the game was not only keeping to the darkness, but taking out lights in order to make as much darkness as possible.

While Jackie Estacado's new adventure will feel a lot like his previous one, The Darkness II introduces a new mechanic in "Quad-Wielding." This new ability will allow Jackie to not only use his dual weapons, but also engage a pair of demon arms in order to slash, grab and throw objects at enemies at the same time.

The Darkness II takes place two years after he realized his vengeance. Now, as the Don of the Estacado crime family, he has tried to suppress the evil supernatural powers that allowed him to wreak havoc on the city's underworld, but that same power doesn't like being cooped-up for so long. When a mob hit goes bad, Jackie is unable to keep The Darkness contained and will have to use the dark powers in order to solve the mysteries that have started appearing around him.

It will be interesting to see how developer Digital Extremes handles this game. We hope to have more information for our readers during this year's E3 Expo next month. Currently The Darkness II does not have an ESRB rating.
