New Sly Uses Cloud-Save

Company: Sony Interactive Entertainment America
Product: Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time

When the PS Vita was announced at E3, one of the features that Sony touted was the ability to play a game on the PS3, save it, and pick up your Vita to continue the game. So far, there haven't been many titles released in the Vita's young life that actually takes advantage of this cloud-based saving. Well, Sony Computer Entertainment America announced today that the newest installment of the Sly Cooper franchise will not only be on the PS3 and Vita, but also take advantage of this feature.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will not only feature master thief Sly and his friends, Murray and Bentley, as they go off on another adventure, but they will do so using the Vita's tilt and motion based controls. Sony claims that the gameplay experience between the two systems will be very similar, so the only real difference between the two gaming sessions is portability. Since the Vita sports two analog sticks, it should be easy to keep the controls as close as possible. That makes me wonder though, since Sony has said Thieves in Time will use the Vita's motion sensors, if there is a SIXAXIS option on the PS3 version of the game.

In Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, the team starts off their journey when pages from the Thievious Raccoonus start to disappear. This book contains the history and secrets of the Cooper family, and Sly must travel back in time to save his ancestors in order to keep the family secrets alive.

I do wonder though if this adventure and the cloud-save feature are going to be enough to warrant purchasing both the PS3 and Vita versions of the game. While the appeal to continue your game when not at home is high, you are still paying for the same title twice. It might be nice if Sony offers up a bundle pack that contains both versions of the game for those loyal Sony fans who happen to own both systems. If not, then Sly Cooper will have to be a damned fine game to warrant the double-purchasing. Time will tell.
