Become the Best Gamer on Campus

Product: Best Gamer on Campus Contest

mtvU, the 24-hour college network, has launched its search for America?s #1 college gamer. With Major League Gaming (MLG), the official professional league for console video game players, mtvU will scour the nation?s campuses to find the college video game players standing above all others. Through an extensive search, mtvU and MLG executives will select five finalists who will travel to mtvU headquarters in New York City, where they will face off in front of thousands live in Times Square by competing on the country?s largest HDTV screen. Based on their performance and fan voting online at mtvU.com, one player will be crowned mtvU?s ?Best Gamer On Campus.? The winner will receive a management contract with MLG, a gaming internship with mtvU, and an ultimate gamer prize pack.

?Our audience grew up on video games, and their level of competition and talent proves it,? said Ross Martin, VP of Programming, mtvU. ?With the help of Major League Gaming, we are eager to showcase these student-athletes on a national level, and give talented college gamers the recognition they've earned.?

?We are delighted with the new relationship formed by Major League Gaming and mtvU,? said Sundance DiGiovanni, co-founder and executive vice president of MLG. ?We see this as yet another stepping stone in our efforts to have professional gaming recognized as being on par with professional sports. We are pleased mtvU recognizes the tremendous value in our connections within the competitive video game community and look forward to helping launch the career of America?s next great gamer.?

To enter mtvU?s ?Best Gamer On Campus Contest,? college hopefuls are invited to visit mtvu?s website before March 29, 2005. Applicants will be asked to tout their gaming prowess and explain exactly why they are the best, as well as submit a screen grab of their greatest video game accomplishment. mtvU and MLG executives will narrow the pool of entries to five semifinalists who will be announced on April 12th. The college audience will then begin voting online for their favorite gamer based on each competitor?s profile, gaming experience, and performance.

On April 21st, the five finalists will fly to New York City for the final showdown in the heart of Times Square. Players will compete in a variety of gaming categories to determine the best all-around gamer. Based on the online voting and guest judges, the field will narrow to two finalists who will compete in a best of three gaming challenge, with the winner taking the crown as the undisputed ?Best Gamer On Campus.? mtvU will air profiles of the contestants beginning April 12th, and air the complete ?Best Gamer On Campus? competition the week of April 25th.

Eligible entrants in mtvU?s ?Best Gamer On Campus Contest? must be 18 years old, a legal resident of the United States, have amateur gaming status, and be enrolled at a college or university that is a current carrier of mtvU.
