Music Awards Given Out to Video Games

The Game Audio Network Guild (G.A.N.G.), a non-profit organization established to further education on interactive audio, has announced the winners of the 3rd annual G.A.N.G. Awards which were held at the Game Developers Conference on March 10, 2005 in San Francisco, California.

Halo 2 and its Audio Director, Marty O?Donnell, took home the top award with Audio of the Year, as well as an award for Best Original soundtrack Album. Myst IV: Revelation and its Composer and Producer, Jack Wall, won the most awards of the evening including Best Live Performance Recording, Best Original Vocal Song, Choral for the game?s main theme, and Music of the Year. A Lifetime Achievement Award was given out to Michael Land who is best known for his work on many adventure titles by LucasArts including Grim Fandango, Sam and Max, and the Monkey Island series.

?It?s truly an honor to win the Audio of the Year award from the premier organization of game audio professionals, G.A.N.G. Being recognized by the top artists in the field makes this award even more meaningful for me and my team,? said Marty O?Donnell the Audio Director for Bungie Studios. ?The rest of the entertainment industry has been put on notice that we?re here to take our rightful place as a serious, artful, and spectacular new medium.?

The G.A.N.G Awards identify the highest quality and achievement of those individuals, projects, and products offering a significant and positive impact on the art and craft of producing interactive audio, its community, and the interactive industry as a whole. Award eligibility is not restricted to G.A.N.G. members exclusively ? any individual, product, or project may receive an award for a contribution to interactive audio. Members may make nominations for any category and there are no fees involved with submitting nominations. The G.A.N.G. membership is able to listen to the final entries and then vote to select the winner in each category.

For a full listing of the winners, you can go to the G.A.N.G. website.
