World Cyber Games Announces US Regionals
The World Cyber Games, the premiere international computer and video gaming festival, in conjunction with iGames, the leading international game center organizer, today announced the dates and locations for the regional qualifier stages of the 2005 USA championship. There is still time for players to qualify by registering online today. The Regional competition includes eight of the most popular PC and console (Xbox) game titles around, including: Counter-Strike 1.6, Starcraft: Brood War, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, FIFA 2005, Need for Speed Underground 2, Dead or Alive Ultimate, and Halo 2.
The top two teams from Halo 2 and Counter-Strike, as well as the top four players each from Warcraft, Starcraft, and Warhammer 40K qualify for the Regional events, while all players are invited to compete at the Regionals for FIFA 2005, Need for Speed Underground 2 and Dead or Alive Ultimate. Players who advance during the regional qualifier rounds qualify for the WCG USA National Finals to be held September 8 through 10, 2005 at the Manhattan Center Studios/Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. All Regional winners receive paid food and accommodation (4 days, 3 nights) for the US Final, plus $200 towards travel expenses, a total package valued at over $750 per player.
In New York, players will compete for a prize pool of $34,000 and a chance at the ultimate honor in e-sports, representing their country. The winners will form Team USA and will travel to Singapore in November to compete against the world?s best gamers at the 2005 World Cyber Games Grand Final to compete for a part of over $400,000 in cash and prizes. Nearly 30,000 participants competed in the WCG US preliminary events in 2004; more than 1 million competed globally. The World Cyber Games helped launch the careers of CounterStrike gold medalists Team 3D, WCG Hall of Famer and reigning Halo champion Matt ?Zyos? Leto, and many other careers in professional e-sports worldwide.
