Icarus Can Give your MMO Wings

Company: Icarus Studios
Product: Icarus MMO Development

The story of Icarus may end with him flying too close to the sun and then plummeting into the sea, but Icarus Studios is here to get your MMO off the ground and soaring. The discussion of how to get your own Massively Multiplayer Online game up and running is on many development companies' minds and lips. The Austin Game Development Conference was no exception, dedicating an entire track of conferences to the subject. But, when the talking is over and the work needs to begin, you need a place to turn, and Icarus can be there for you.

It should be no surprise that the MMO market and gaming in general has come to the mainstream. Names like WOW or Second Life are becoming household discussions. MMO's are making companies plenty of money and everyone wants to get in on the action. MMO's are big business, and big business means high startups and venture capital. Inversely, the tools are becoming easier to use and more modular to plug in and get going. So what does it take to get an MMO off the ground and running, you ask? Well, first the small bits. A dream and an idea are a great place to start, but after that you have to get a team together and find the capital. It can become a daunting task. There are more considerations than the obvious game itself. The billing models and distribution are far greater a task than the game can be.

Icarus Studios is one of many companies out there who are willing to get you started in the right direction. They are by far not the first, but they are the first who I spoke with who actually seemed interested in lowering the barriers of entrance, and by that I mean they have a scalable product and service to fit most serious developers. If you have the passion, you are closer than you were before. However, don't misread this, they are a business and are here to help your MMO exist instead of falling by the wayside.
