Knight Rider: Knight Rider Preview

Company: Tri Synergy

Knight Rider was a TV series that most will say was ahead of its time. Starring a young, buff David Hasselhoff, this popular 1980's TV show received mild popularity among Sci-Fi and Action fans of the time. Now, almost 20 years later, Knight Rider is slated to return in the shape of an immersive Action/Driving game. In Knight Rider, players get behind the wheel of the KITT, the supercharged, black Trans-Am sports car that made the TV show a hit.

KITT, short for Knight Industries Two Thousand, sports the kind of features that lie in every car lover's dreams. In the PC adaptation of Knight Rider, players utilize KITT's selection of gadgets, most notably Ski mode, Turbo Boost, and Micro Jammers. These gadgets help KITT accomplish missions in ways that a normal car could never handle, making KITT an almost life-like machine.

Knight Rider centers around the special sealant that covers KITT's metallic frame. This sealant apparently stops KITT from receiving excess damage when running into things or being attacked by bombs, mines or other vehicles. In Knight Rider, someone has acquired the formula for the sealant, and is using it in an attempt to destroy KITT and Micheal Knight. The game takes you through different highway and city enviroments trying to uncover the mystery and nab the criminal in question.

Since KITT is an incredibly complex and advanced vehicle, many of the 'problems' or unbelievable aspects presented in Knight Rider can be completely covered up with a little imagination and belief that KITT is truly an extraordinary being. KITT's body never weakens visually, and his performances in tight squeezes and rooftop excursions make him seem more man than machine. Nevertheless, KITT is not an average car. The sealant keeps his frame from degenerating, and jumping from building to building is something of a trademark for this vehicle.

All in all, Knight Rider is a driving game that some gamers have wanted for quite some time. The landscapes, though sometimes repetitive, keep players active while zooming by at 130 miles per hour. Randomly spliced cinematic-like shots of KITT jumping over a barricade as you drive through massive highways, or pulling a donut to switch directions keeps the monotony to a minimum. However, the camera never ceases to show you what you need to see when it's needed. Already popular in Europe, and with a cult following waiting for something like this for twenty years, Knight Rider will definitely shape up for a successful debut in America.
