Shade: Wrath of Angels: Shade of a Real Game

Company: Trisynergy

I recently had the chance to play a Beta build of Cenega's new 3rd person action game titled Shade: Wrath of Angels. Put simply, unless a lot changes are made by the time this game is released, no one is in for a great experience. It's by no means a "bad" game, but it's just so humdrum that it wouldn't be worth most people's time as it stands.

Graphically, the game is sorely lacking. While I've certainly seen worse games, Shade: Wrath of Angels still seems a little rough around the edges. Perhaps what really makes it seem worse than it looks is the animation. Nothing about any of the animation felt very good. The game felt and moved rather stiffly and rigidly. Here's hoping they are able to improve it before release.

As for how the game plays, well, take an interesting 3rd person beat/shoot 'em up. Now strip everything in the gameplay so that only its core is left. That's pretty much what you'll apparently find in Shade: Wrath of Angels. You run around beating things up with guns, fists, and swords. While that may be a good description for many games, there's really nothing else to mention. Well, there is one thing. At some point during the game, you become very "close" with a demon entity of some sort and gain the ability to transform into it. It's not really any more fun as the demon though. Think Tomb Raider, but not as fun.

As for the story, your brother disappears and you go off looking for him. You end up traveling to different time periods to find various pieces of an angel heart to save him. In any event, Shade: Wrath of Angels is shaping up to be a rather mediocre adventure. Here's hoping those angels can perform a miracle. Only time will tell.
