Planet Monsters: Evil Penguins and Monsters... Oh My!

Company: Titus

One of the most addictive games I have ever played would have to be Kickle Cubicle on the NES. I don?t know what it was about that game, which pretty much looked like a Sanrio store on crack, but once I started playing it, I had a hard time putting it down. Unfortunately, I?ve yet to find a game like that - until now.

When I first popped in an early copy of Planet Monsters, I had no idea what to expect; so imagine my surprise when I found out it was Kickle - well sort of. Make that Kickle, only with the added multi-player addiction of Bomberman. I?ll be straight with you, it?s not the prettiest of GBA games. However, once you start playing, it?ll be hard to put down. I?m guessing (and hoping) the sparse graphics will mean it only requires one copy of the game for the multiplayer mode.

The premise of Planet Monsters is simple, yet effective. You are a monster on a board with three monsters just like you and, in the version I played, some evil looking penguins (yes, I?m serious). Your job is to eliminate the other three monsters before they eliminate you by kicking the blocks which make up the maze, and smashing them into a wall.

It should come as no surprise that my biggest disappointment was that my copy was not a complete game, but judging from how much fun I had with this version, I can?t wait for the final copy, especially with four people! The final version promises 40 levels and various weapons, including lasers, rockets, and balls, in addition to the blocks.

Look for Planet Monsters sometime before the end of the year.
