Graphics & Sound:

The graphics in Quake II are very good. If you have an Expansion Pak installed on your N64, Quake II will detect it and use it to allow higher resolutions to be selected (from the Options Menu). The graphics in this dark future sci-fi shoot ‘em-up are nice, but have very dark overtones to them. The mood of the game is eerie. You never quite get over the first time you come across a corpse with flies buzzing around it. The music and sound effects are well done, and are very dark and foreboding, adding depth to the dark feeling of Quake II.

Bang. Bang... and more Bang. If that sounds like you're idea of a great time, come get some! Quake II is a fun, fast and furious frag-fest for up to four fire-happy fanatics. The Single Player mode is cool. The Multiplayer modes are a blast!

The single player mode has some places that are somewhat difficult, but in all, provides a fun, yet challenging mission. In the Single Player mode, it almost always holds true that slow and steady is the best approach. If you give yourself some time, you can usually avoid making some of the mistakes that can get you fragged. While the Multiplayer modes are fun, be forewarned: there is no specific advice I could give you to help against a human opponent. You just have to learn to understand the way your opponents think, then outsmart them.

Game Mechanics:

Quake II works very well. The control setups that you can choose from are a little awkward, but you can define your own setup as well. This type of customizing allows for improved gameplay. I also must say that I'm glad to see that Quake II supports the Expansion Pak. The graphics show an obvious improvement when using it. All games should support this device in the future. Will that ever come to pass? We'll have to wait and see...
