Graphics & Sound:

Knockout Kings 2000‘s graphics are extremely realistic, and the boxers represent their real-life counterparts well. Check out Ali! They really make the game come alive. When a boxer is taking a beating, his eyes swell turn purple and begin to bleed. The sound effects are fairly good, consisting mainly of boxers grunting, commentators rambling, and fans cheering and booing according to what’s happening in the ring. The only music present is at the Menu Screen and during the intro - a nifty song by rapper ‘O.’

Gameplay:

Quick Start is one of four different modes in Knockout Kings 2000. It’s fairly self-explanatory - the computer randomly selects your character and your opponent and you duke it out. In Slugfest, you choose your boxer and the victim you’ll be laying the smack down on. In Career mode, you and your selected boxer try to clutch the title and build up your record to earn respect from the fans. During Career mode, you can also train your boxer and earn more attributes, which will help you when you fight the big dogs. Create A Boxer is the coolest feature in Knockout Kings 2000. You can customize your boxer’s facial characteristics, his hair and skin color, and most importantly, his thrash wear. Have some fun and make yourself, or even better, make your worst enemy. You get the idea. This is boxing, after all.

Difficulty:

Knockout Kings 2000 has the three basic levels of difficulty. No matter who your opponent or what difficulty setting you have it on, you can always get your butt whooped. Overall, the game is not hard, but can be very challenging depending on who you fight against. Just a note - Slugfest matches are easier than Career matches. Knockout Kings 2000 is a game that will never bore you by being too easy.

Game Mechanics:

One awesome thing about Knockout Kings 2000 is the ref is Mills Lane (the ref from “Celebrity Deathmatch” on MTV). Play by play commentaries by Al Albert and ‘The Champ,’ Shawn O’Grady really put you in the game. Knockout Kings 2000 has 25 of the greatest boxers including Frazier, Butterbean, Lewis, De La Hoya and ‘The Greatest,’ Muhammad Ali; you also have your choice of nine different arenas to fight in. Lay ‘em out with a variety of moves such as the jab, the low blow, and the haymaker, to name a few. Knockout Kings 2000 is without a doubt, the boxing game of the year!
