Previously on The Walking Dead:

Some serious stuff went down when we last left Javier in Episode 1 – Ties That Bind: Part 1. Within all of the action, Javier was separated from his brother’s wife, Kate, his niece, Marianna, and his nephew, Gabe. We also saw that Clementine has grown up and become a rebel without a cause. She murdered a man in a fit of rage, and one of the decision points was that of Javier having her back or not.

Javier and Clem ended up at Prescott, a fenced-in oasis in the midst of all the chaos in the world. Within, Javier has the opportunity to befriend a few more characters, including the leader, Tripp, and the town’s doctor, Eleanor. Moving forward, Javier teams up with this new group, along with Clementine, to look for Javi’s family. Although found, the episode climaxes with loss of life and the shock factor. With the first episode out of the way, it is time to move on.


A Fateful Encounter:

Back in Episode 1, Javier had this run-in with a group of scavengers that ended in tragedy. Within The Walking Dead: A New Frontier: Episode 2 – Ties That Bind: Part 2, Javier and company have to quickly pick up the pieces and keep moving because now Kate is dying, but these scavengers aren’t done. They are actually part of a group that calls themselves the New Frontier, and have returned to retrieve Javier as they believe him to be the cause of their friends’ lost lives. This second deadly encounter eventually ends up destroying the gates of Prescott, allowing swarms of walkers to take over.

In a mad dash, Javier, Tripp, Eleanor, Kate, Clem, and Gabe hop into some vehicles and hit the road, believing they need to get to Richmond in order to save Kate’s life from the gunshot wound she took in Ties That Bind: Part 1. We get to feel a bit more of Javier’s and Kate’s relationship and how it is molding into more than an "in-law" state of being.


On the Road Again:

With their two vehicles in tow, Episode 2 – Ties That Bind: Part 2 continues on the road until the gang hits a roadblock that needs resolution. Is it coincidence, or a trap? Regardless of the motive, it is up to Javier to scour the area and come up with a solution to move a car that is blocking their path. It also gives him an opportunity to talk with each of the people in the group and build a relationship with them.

After solving the dilemma of the blocked path, the noise made to move a car sitting on its rims draws in a ton of walkers and the place quickly becomes overrun. While half of the group heads to the roof of a nearby building, Eleanor takes off with one vehicle in an effort to save Kate by getting to Richmond as quickly as possible. It is here that the group that is left behind encounters a surprise guest.


Show No Mercy:

During The Walking Dead: A New Frontier: Episode 2 – Ties That Bind: Part 2, we get to see another flashback/backstory of what led to the group being together at this moment in time. This time, we briefly get control over Clementine and the implications that go along with it. Afterward, and as the group travels toward Richmond, Clem comes clean about her dirty little secret, but this proves to be a huge undertaking for Javier, who has been potentially covering for Clem the entire time that they have known each other.

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier: Episode 2 – Ties That Bind: Part 2 draws from multiple sources to help drive the storyline and the characters that appear, as well as how they are affected. At the beginning of Episode 1, the options of using old saves or making your own story can affect things as well. Depending on decisions made, the course of the meeting with the New Frontier at Richmond can be slightly different. However, the main thing remains true. Kate is dying and needs medical help, so the group decides it is worth the risk to approach and confront the same group of scavengers that now guard the gate. An unexpected surprise waits as well in the final moments of the two part Ties That Bind. What will they have in store for us in the next episode?
