FS Design Studio

Score: 75%
ESRB: Unknown
Publisher: Abacus

Genre: Miscellaneous

Graphics & Sound:

The great thing about FS Design Studio is that you make the graphics as good or as bad as you want them to be. Your design can look as good as the best graphic in MS Flight Sim 2000 or worse than the worse. Really, the graphics are at your discretion (or your level of talent I should say).

Gameplay:

First let me say that FS Design Studio is a great program. It lets you design objects for Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2000. With the standard version you can create only objects, but with the Pro version, you can do aircraft as well. First things first - this is not a program for just any gamer. You really have to know what you are doing. There are a few web sites to help you, but if you want to create original objects, you need skills. The interface and mechanics of the program work something like AutoCAD and 3D Studio Max. If you can navigate those programs, you have it made. Using FS Design Studio, you can make obstacles, buildings, signs, landscape, and other infinite amounts of scenery. While this sounds easy enough, it is anything but. Only skilled CAD people should bother with this.

Difficulty:

Like I said, this is very, very difficult. I have an engineering degree and I couldn't do much of anything. The average gamer will not like FS Design Studio; however, the average developer will love it. You must be able to create wire frame, comprehend lighting effects, and know color shadings - just to name a few. Although the program is simple if you know what you are doing, you must know what you are doing first.

Game Mechanics:

FS Design Studio sports a nice menu driven, point and click type interface. Basically, it's like any other design software that you have ever seen. The mechanics are simple, it's just the artistic parts that most have trouble with. Again, if you are familiar with other graphical design software, then this one is a piece of cake.
