Graphics & Sound:

Well, the graphics were not very good. Everything was all jumbled up on the screen. It was also hard to determine what player was who due to the lack of detail. It also ran choppy and slow. I really did not like the graphics at all. I wasn't too big on the sound effects either (of course, you can turn those off). I will say that the game had good color. I mean, at least the grass was green. Now, the game is still playable - very much so. It just doesn't look good. You can tell the difference between the player, the ball, and the bases. That's really all you need to play. It just doesn't have a standout look to it.

Gameplay:

All-Star Baseball 2001 is a hand-held baseball game full of options and great gameplay. Let's start with gameplay options. You can select from two play modes - Regulation and Quick mode. Regulation mode is the big league rules. Quick mode is a one-strike mode. The game plays as normal, but every batter comes to the plate with a 0-2 count - a pitchers dream. Next, let's check out game types. Well there are Exhibition, Season, All-Star Game, the Playoffs, the Home Run Derby, and Batting Practice. That's six different game types, boys and girls. Okay, but what about the gameplay. It is great. The game does run slow, but the functionality of it makes it great. Every event in the game of baseball is included. Leading off, stealing, run downs, intentional walks, pick offs, leaping and diving catches, radars . the list is endless. What All-Star lacks in graphics, it more than makes up for in gameplay.

Difficulty:

As with all sports games, the game difficulty is adjustable. If you want to make the game easier and just hit the balls, turn on the Field Assistance. You also have the options of Pro, and All-Star Difficulties, of course Pro being the easier of the two. There are a lot of in-game options, but as a whole, it is easy to play and manage.

Game Mechanics:

As I said, All-Star 2001 does run a bit slow. With the choppiness, you have more time to react to the ball, but it's not really necessary. The game does go with the standard baseball controls along with a few new ones. With a D-Pad and 2 buttons, the mechanics cannot be that overbearing. All-Star Baseball 2001 is just a solid baseball game full of options and gameplay, only with less than spectacular graphics.
