Graphics & Sound:

Hi, I'm Bob. Maybe you heard that I have a new game right now on Nintendo's Game Boy Color. It is really fun, and all my friends are in it. I always have a lot of work to do, with some of my buddies who happen to be machines. This comes in very handy for the big jobs I have. You might recognize Scoop, with his big yellow scoop and big wheels. We're having a picnic for Scoop and the other machines, like Roley, Muck, Lofty and even Pilchard and Wendy. In my game, you get to help me with some chores that need to be done before we can go to the picnic. When you see what these machines do, it may look more like fun and games than work. From catching apples with Dizzy to saving ducklings with Lofty, there really is a lot to do here. All the machines look great on Game Boy, and you'll get to do a lot of exploring with me as we look for lost stuff around town. You will need a sharp eye to pick up some of this stuff!

Gameplay:

So, let me tell you about some of these games--uh, I mean 'chores,' that we have to do before the picnic. When we start, you can pick any job to do first. Those machines are sitting around looking sleepy, but if we talk to them, we can go to work right away. Each machine has a job to do, and you will find that each job takes advantage of a machine's skills. Like, with Muck, we have to help repair a wall by picking up brick pieces and fitting them into holes. Roley needs to help smooth out a road, and he's great at jobs like that, of course. Dizzy is a little silly, but she has a difficult job to do, catching apples that Spud is throwing around in the Orchard. Each time we take a machine out to do a job, we only have a little time to finish. Sometimes, we might pick up something to give us more time, but if we run out of time, we have to start the job over again.

When we aren't helping the machines get their jobs done, I need you to help me run some errands for folks around town. These jobs usually feel like a treasure hunt. You know, where stuff is lost or hiding and we have to go find it? Well, it's definitely fun to look around town, and we even get to explore places like fields, barns and other spots. And, when we get all the jobs and errands done, we get to relax and have a fun picnic with all the machines, Wendy and even Pilchard!

Difficulty:

I know that not all of you are like 3 years old, so my new game can be played Easy or Hard. There's even something in between, at Medium difficulty. Difficulty means that we may not have as much time to do our jobs, or that things may be a little more messy and hard to find on our treasure hunts. So, maybe you have a friend or brother who is even 6 years old or more, and they will want to play Bob the Builder on 'Hard' difficulty. When you play my game on 'Easy' it is really easy, and even the little kids will be able to make it to Scoop's picnic.

Game Mechanics:

Since all the machines do different stuff, you probably can guess that we won't be able to drive them the same way or use their special skills without some training. Before we start a job, we'll see what needs to be done, and the little book you get with the game tells you what buttons to push on your Game Boy Color. There aren't too many buttons on that thing, are there? Really, it isn't hard to figure out what to do. With the machines, some have special pieces like Lofty's hook or Muck's scoop. Usually, pressing a button will make these work. When you see the machine driving side-to-side, usually you'll push the controller-pad on the Game Boy in the direction you want the machine to go. Sometimes, you see the machine from above, and pushing a button makes the maching go forward or backward. At those times, pushing the controller is like steering a car. It's pretty easy.

When you and I go on our errands, the controls are a little different. You'll see me, of course, so just move the controller in the direction we need to go, up, down or side-to-side. Pushing one button lets me know that we need to jump, in case you see that trickster Spud rolling a can or something at us. Push the other button if you see the time running out so I know we need to speed up and run. Be careful when we run, though! Not only are we likely to go right by something we need, but we might run into something! When we find a piece of whatever we're looking for, we just walk right over an pick it up automatically. Look out for keys, 'cause if you find one it means we can open up secret places. Who knows what we might find there?!

Well, that is all I can say about my new game, Bob the Builder for Game Boy Color. You will have a good time playing it! My machine friends and I can't do it all without your help, and I always say that the best work is fun work!
