Eye For Eye: The Talion Series - Book 1

Publisher: Talion Publishing

Eye For Eye: The Talion Series - Book 1 surrounds the lives of two married couples, Suzie Font and Roy Cruise of Miami, FL and Tom and Deb Wise of Austin, TX. The pair meet while vacationing in Colorado and realize that they share a tragic connection, one in which the lives of each of their respective children was irreparably damaged. For Suzie and Roy, their beloved daughter Camilla was killed instantly when a careless boy named Liam Bareto was texting and driving. For Tom and Deb, while their daughter Kristy survived, she was raped at college by Joe Harlan, Jr., the wealthy and privileged son of a senator. Kristy and her parents now live with the aftermath of the incident, which includes Harlan being acquitted of the crime.

Shockingly, although they are all but strangers, Tom proposes a request to Roy - that he kill Joe Harlan, Jr. to avenge Kristy, and in some small way get revenge for the loss of Camilla as well. No one would ever suspect him because he and Suzie have no connection to the victims or the supposed criminal. Roy thinks Tom is insane and immediately distances himself from the couple, but something starts brewing in Suzie's brain and she can't shake it. She may finally get some closure for Camilla's death if she can help this other family get closure.

Suzie needles Roy until he gives in, but Roy is a big believer in planning, and to pull this murder off, it will take a lot of moving parts and the involvement of perfectly innocent people, such as David Kim, Roy's partner at his company, Cruise Capital. What's worse, the pair will both have to endanger their lives to create the perfect alibi. But if they can in some small part avenge Camilla, will it be worth it?

Eye For Eye is a thrill ride, a quick read that is hard to put down. I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish and I can't wait to read the next in the series. While I have barely touched the tip of the iceberg of this story, I can't risk divulging any more as it would take away from discovering the story on your own. Suffice it to stay that this story moves around in time, from the 1980's to the present, from Austin, Texas to Miami, Florida and several places in between and beyond. The story is expertly woven and from the perspective of an outsider with very inside information, looking in on this insanity, and it leaves you waiting until the very end to discover just who the writer is. While I did figure out several pertinent things as the book progressed, the ending did shock me, but in a very good way.

If you are looking for a great beach read, you have found it in Eye For Eye. Although this book appears to be the first for J.K. Franko, I really enjoyed his writing style and it feels very well seasoned. Highly recommended.
